With the final season of Falling Skies just 3 weeks away, we spoke with actress Moon Bloodgood to find out what is in store for Anne and the 2nd mass. The end of season 4 left members of the 2nd mass on edge as they barely escaped being turned into hybrid monsters. Saved at the final moment thanks to a mission undertaken by Tom and Lexi, Tom survives on another ship while Lexi doesn’t. We leave Tom who seemingly meets another alien race, the one feared by both the Volm and the Espheni.
We see Anne in front of a firing squad in one preview. What can you tell us about that?
I can tell you that the alien you saw in season 4 becomes an important part for the story line this season. You don’t visually see it, but Tom refers back to it in the finale. Another character in the 2nd mass is going to go down a very dark path and create a lot of problems for members of the 2nd mass. And of course more aliens will show up this season.
How does Anne handle the loss of yet another child of hers (first her son and now Lexi)?
That was really hard. After I had my own child it became harder to play and became much more emotional for me to act out. I think it permeates Anne’s relationship with Tom and affects the entire relationship. My character has to make peace with Lexi’s death and I think I can say that she comes back in the form of a ghost to Anne (in her head).
Which character does Anne get more interactions with this season that she hasn’t in the past?
Cochise is the one character that Anne gets to interact a lot this season and there is a really great episode for the two of them. Anne also has issues with Cochise at some point. I get more stuff with Anthony, Maggie and Pope as well, which was a lot of fun to be with characters I am not normally on-screen with all the time.
Which episode is your favorite for your character and which one is your favorite as a fan?
My favorite moment of the season is the episode I have with Cochise where something happens in his life and Anne gets to be there for him and its such an emotional scene. And Doug Jones is such a fantastic actor which makes it even more fun. The finale also (which is always a great episode) but something extreme happens to Anne and my characters goes on quite a journey in the finale.

Season 1: Stable

Tom keeps disappearing and returning on Anne just about every season. Does Anne take on more of a leadership role as people start to trust Tom less?
She has to step up whether she wants to or not. And she has to step up and give a speech and I am terrified of speeches but she has to rally the troops. She does question Tom throughout the season just like everyone else. Anne did sort of have to replace Tom as the rock of the 2nd mass.
When looking at the 5-7 year plan show runners had when they started Falling Skies, are you satisfied with where they completed the story arcs?
I don’t know how you could ever be completely satisfied because there are so many characters and because we had so many show runners there was a lot of different writing styles and ideas on how to take each character. I think everyone is going to have different opinions on what they are satisfied with or not. There is one character in particular who I think had a great story line and a great ending.
Who is the character that has the great story arc ending? I can’t say.
