Only two episodes in and sparks are flying, suspicion is running rampant, and hammers are falling. Firstly, if you haven’t watched tonight’s episode then stop reading this unless you particularly enjoy spoilers, otherwise read on.
“Parasomnia” introduces a girl who is suffering from the creepiest damn night terrors you can imagine who ultimately seeks help from the school therapist i.e. Lydia’s mom and therefore Lydia while Stiles is continuing on his investigation to discover who Theo is and what he wants. I’ll just get this out there now, Stiles has pretty good instincts, so they should just trust him more and others less. Of course, I may be speaking from a complete “trust no one” perspective, but it’s Stiles! He’s probably right!
That being said, tonight’s episode really kept up with the dark and creepy aspect this season as the new girl, Tracy, deals with her night terrors…and terror is definitely an accurate description. Most of the time the night terrors manifest as feather-covered monsters, which are seen in the dark or by a solitary hand reaching out to grab things (like a certain skateboard. I’ll get to that). As the episode reveals later on, however, Tracy isn’t merely experiencing some anxiety resulting in night terrors, she’s “awakening” with a little help from her friendly, neighborhood Doctors. Whatever they’ve done, they’ve awoken a beast, so we’ve either just met a new friend to the pack or a new enemy of the pack. Probably enemy. Either way, Tracy is awake now.
Speaking of possible pack enemies, Theo has been working on gaining Scott’s trust throughout this episode. Unfortunately, that’s the easy part. Stiles, however, doesn’t trust him and seems to be the smart one in that respect. Theo is up to something, that’s clear, but what? Obviously, he wants to be in Scott’s pack, but his story doesn’t check out. Admittedly, wonky handwriting eight years apart by his dad is weak evidence, but those werewolf biting flashbacks also don’t seem so werewolf-y as much as they seem like contrivances from The Doctors. Did we see a werewolf bite him? No. What we saw was a hand that looked suspiciously like the hand that pulled Tracy’s chair out from under her. Coincidence? Maybe, but based on other things from Theo’s end, I’m sticking with Stiles on this one. Theo is not to be trusted.
Not only is the dude obviously planning something. He’s creeptastic to the nth degree. He turned full wolf to either scare or test Liam…I’m going with test for now. And when Stiles (stupidly) revealed his suspicion about Theo based on Theo’s dad’s handwriting, Theo went home and took a hammer to his (fake?) dad’s hand, because handwriting changes when your hand is broken. All Stiles managed to do was let Theo know he’s onto him and gave him a chance to cover his tracks. Dumb move on Stiles part, but at least we know one thing: Theo is not good. And based on the information given about beta’s killing their alphas, I’m guessing he’s a plant of The Doctors, sucking up and joining Scott’s pack so he can carry out The Doctors’ orders. To what end, I don’t know, but it seems plausible…in my head, at least.
While there was plenty of creep in tonight’s episode, it was broken up with some humor and bonding. I will always adore Sciles and the moments they have together. While Liam has been adding to the comic relief side of things lately as Scott and Stiles are focusing on more important things, these two still have their moments albeit slightly more mature than in times past. Scott mending Stiles’ hand and even Stiles’ reason for not trusting people proves that Stiles is the yin to Scott’s yang. Okay, that…um…didn’t come out right, but you get my point. These two have an amazing friendship, which has already had slight hints at breaking as the “new” friend comes in between them. (Damn you, Theo!) I hope that’s not the case…at least not for very long. These two are better together and need to stay that way.
Two people who shouldn’t be together, however, are Lydia and Deputy Parrish. Don’t get me wrong, I like these two. I just don’t like these two as a couple and the hints that have already been tossed around this season are not very appealing. I hope we see more of Deputy Parrish’s abilities, but I don’t want to see him with Lydia. Of course, if the show keeps up with its initial reveal (and it doesn’t turn out to be more mind tricks), then Parrish and Lydia won’t be much of a concern. I guess I’ll just have to keep watching to find out what happens…or happened?
