I’m still processing the events in “Condition Terminal,” but it definitely hinted at an answer to some of the mysteries popping up this season while leaving more in its wake. Firstly, we seemed to get some confirmation on Theo’s allegiance…and it didn’t surprise anyone. Secondly, the Doctors have a name and it’s dreadful (sorry for the shameful pun there.) Thirdly, Deaton figured out what the Doctors creations are, but we’re left without a reason for it…or why they keep failing…or what exactly it is they are failing at completing. Fourthly, we finally got some more clues and hints about Parrish!
Obviously, Theo has had an ominous start since he joined the show. Even his werewolf bite story didn’t sit right with anyone…or at least with Stiles and anyone watching the show. Then there was the taloned hand that caught the skateboard and no wolfy visuals for the biting. Add in the convenient story about some twins who killed their alpha and a hammer and you’ve got evil conspiracy theories about Theo. I don’t think anyone watching thought Theo was legitimately good (even if he has helped), but I did at least wonder how he fit in. In a way, I got confirmation that he is allied with the doctors, but his purpose has yet to be seen. How else would he know where to find Donovan and “direct” him toward the next victim? Donovan recovered from his tooth extraction and followed Theo’s suggestions and the last image we were left with tonight was a chimera attacking Stiles. What did he do to him?!? Will this infect Stiles somehow and cause the rift between him and Scott that has been hinted at this season? Will he become the Dread Doctors’ next experiment?
Then we have an answer (sort of) about the creatures the Dread Doctors are creating. (Yup, that’s their name. The Dread Doctors. Delightful, isn’t it?) Anyway, though the Dread Doctors haven’t revealed their intentions or goals, Deaton has figured out some answers about these guys…or at least their creations. Deaton has discovered that Tracy and the other beasts were actually hybrid creatures – chimeras – created by splicing multiple creatures together forming beasts that have no supernatural aspects about them. (Okay, I’m still a bit lost on that one. How exactly would that work? I thought the entire reason werewolves, kanimas, and the like exist was because they are supernatural. If you take the supernatural part away, don’t you just have humans? The supernatural part is inherent to the beasts existence, isn’t it? I think I’ll need some more explanation on that part. Feel free to let me know, if you have one.) Aside from my confusion on the un-supernatural supernatural chimeras, the Doctors have been hard at work creating these creatures and sending them out on an unsuspecting Beacon Hills. Their purpose has yet to be revealed, but based on Malia’s discovery of a book called “The Dread Doctors” there is more to them than meets the eye…and the book may hold some answers to that.
Speaking of mysteries and the Dread Doctors’ creations, we were also left with a bit of a mystery about Parrish. We’ve already been trying to figure out his origins and powers and tonight we got a bit more of a hint to it as he turned into a ball of flame reminiscent of Kira’s kitsune powers and took the dead chimera’s (otherwise known as the Dread Doctors failures) to the Nemeton. Clearly, Parrish is a chimera hoarder. He has more issues than we thought. Does this mean Parrish is a creation of the Doctors? Is he working with the doctors or is he working against them? What is Parrish? We’ve yet to get a clear answer on that, but at least we know a little bit more about him!
Also of note was Scott’s mom’s pep-talk and Kira. I will always love the dynamic between the mentors/parents and younger generation on this show. These teenagers aren’t just out on their own, but have people helping them and able to give them advice when they need it. Tonight’s pep-talk was from Scott’s mom with the “shoulding all over yourself” advice. It’s good to see the bond they have and where Scott gets some of his wisdom. As for Kira and Scott, he apparently told Kira he loved her for the first time in a hectic moment that didn’t really allow for time for him to register what he said. Kira, however, noted it and told him he was changing everything without even realizing he was doing it. What is that supposed to mean? Was that a bit of foreshadowing? More importantly what is wrong with her this season? While she has definitely developed her kitsune powers more, she also seems to be having some issues. When Lucas was taken out, but not dead, Kira went in for the kill anyway. Scott had to stop her, so what was that about? Then there is that whole electricity/sparking thing she’s got going on. Are these part of her kitsune powers or something a bit more dreadful? (Check out this preview for where that may be leading.)
With the craziness from tonight, (and a serious lack of expected hilarity in Liam’s wingman skills), there are a lot of questions left to answer. Here’s hoping next week we get some of those answers as the group heads to Eichen House to find out more about the Doctors. Watch Teen Wolf on Mondays at 10/9c to find out and feel free to share your theories! I’m actually pretty terrible at this guessing game!
