Last weeks episode was very telling. Hobb has faked Fred’s death and is now keeping him under surveillance at his house in the country. Hobb has dicovered a secret left by David Elster in the synth. He needs all of the special ones to unlock it. Fred doesn’t buy his crap and escapes Hobb and his guards.
In the Hawkins household, Sophie is under the impression that her dad is on a “work holiday” while everyone else is trying to deal with the fact of Joe admitting that he had sex with Anita. They are all thinking of Anita fondly now and want to help her. Mattie is mad at her mom and takes off to her boyfriend’s house. Laura finds her and they have a long talk about the truth. Who is Tom? Tom is the younger brother of Laura, who was supposed to be looking out for him. Because Laura was busy talking to a neighbor boy, little Tom was hit by a car and killed, thus causing all these years of guilt. Laura’s own mother wishes her dead and we see why Laura has been a struggling mother. Mattie accepts all this with a new understanding. Anita overhears all of this tragic story and it unleashes Mia inside of her once again. Mia says it won’t be long before Anita takes over again.
Mattie Takes Anita to find Leo, but runs into Max . They find Leo near death and have to recharge him, to the shock of Mattie. We found out that Leo, who is the son of creator David Elster, had a mother who was mentally disturbed. This prompted David to create a synth to take care of Leo as a child. And that synth was none other than Mia (Anita). All of our special synths are more human than not and are a family. When and took off with Leo. There was an accident. Leo drowned after being kidnapped by his mother but Mia pulled him to safety, with David spending days putting synth parts in his son’s body so that he might live.
Leo and Mattie succeed in bringing Mia out and they are all happily reunited again. Mattie agrees that with people looking for them all, it will be safer for Mia to stay with the Hawkins’. Joe comes home, sees what is going on and decides he doesn’t trust Leo after hearing the whole story. Joe calls the cops and reports Leo’s car. The cops pull them over and then Hobb shows up, ready to take the two into his “care.” Leo guns it and escapes, but Max only has so much power left. They are at a standoff on the bridge, when Max sacrifices himself, throwing himself into the river, saying that if he dies that means he’s truly lived. It’s a terrifying, yet emotional moment!
There is a strange bond and friendship growing between Niska and George. They banter about life and details together. Niska tells George about her being a sex play toy for David Elster and how she decided to take control of her life while in the brothel. She’s been a victim of the man who created her, but George is different. She helps George heal Odi.
Karen wants to be more human. She is feeling disconnected. She reaches out to Peter. They have sex. She feels so close to him and shows him her charging port as she plugs herself in.He runs off, unable to accept who, and what she is.
This episode was all about family, understanding and acceptance. Would you accept them? Do you understand all the underlying emotions that our synths have? Would you say they are, for all fact, human? Tell me your thoughts. Comment on here and let me know what you think! Watch the new episode tonight on AMC!
