In the opening episode of series 9, the Doctor was faced with a chance to kill a young Davros long before he ever dreamt of the Daleks, but, to no one’s surprise, he doesn’t make a preemptive strike against one of his most persistent foes. After all, this young Davros is innocent and the Doctor’s not in the habit of killing innocents, or even those that deserve it if he can find an alternate solution. Having said that, the very last scene would seem to belie my statements.
In this pair of trailers, a very adult Davros tempts the Doctor with the opportunity to wipe out all the Daleks with a single stroke. Will he do it? Something again tells me he won’t, but eliminating a clear and present threat should be a much easier choice than killing a child who will one day grow up to create this threat. How this plays out is anyone’s guess until episode 902, The Witch’s Familiar, airs next week.
