#TeamTobias ! What do you think? I am enthralled with the character Tobias, in this episode of Fear The Walking Dead! I will explain further below…
It’s that doomed feeling… that feeling of chaos… the feeling that they just don’t know what’s hit ‘em!
Sunday night marked the second episode of my new favorite series on AMC. I was there along with you and saw all the hype and build up, before this series aired. I have become a fanatic,go figure, after only 2 episodes. So Close, Yet So Far, was viewed by over 8 million people. If that doesn’t say something, I don’t know what does. This episode kept all of us on the edge of our seats and totally ramped up the ensuing chaos that comes with the end of civilization.
We witnessed the start of the fall in episode 1, and episode 2, made us FEAR! Madison and Travis felt as though they were going insane themselves after the killing of Calvin. You can only wonder what is going through our characters heads after seeing that. Alisha sets out to find out why Matt hasn’t shown up or returned her frantic calls and texts. When she gets to his house, the door is open. Why is heaven’s name would a teenage girl walk into a house, alone, when she knows something is wrong? This is really stupid, Alicia! She finds signs of a struggle and finds her boyfriend in the bed.She finds Matt, sick in bed and attempts to help him. His family still isn’t back and she feels responsible for him. Ah, true love is so blind!.
Travis, Madison and Nick are trying to travel back home, all the while trying to reach Alicia and Travis’ son Chris. When they finally reach Alicia, she tells them about Matt and Madison tells her to stay away from him. They head to Matt’s house. Travis discovers Matt has been bitten and only he, Nick and Madison, know how this will probably end. Alicia is totally confused and they are not telling her anything. Why are they keeping her in the dark?
They get Nick home, and he is starting to go into withdrawals. Nick tells his mom that “he is about to enter a world of shit”, and she realizes that he needs desperate help. Madison needs to get somewhere to find him drugs to ease the symptoms, and sister Alicia has to babysit him, They discuss leaving, maybe going to the desert until this all blows over. Travis leaves and heads to his ex-wife Liza’s place, to find his son Chris. There are worried goodbyes here, neither knowing what will happen.
Madison heads to the high school to rifle through the meds cabinet. When she arrives there is an uneasy quiet, as no one is around. She proceeds to break into the drug cabinet and hears a noise. She is startled to see Tobias, who has come here to get his knife back and steal much needed supplies. Let me stop right here. Tobias. This character is one that I will never forget. This bullied but brilliant teenage student, won me over in the first episode. His quiet but strong nature, his seeming resilience. He Knows. He knows all! He has seen that society is going to fall apart, that civilization is crumbling, and he is not a sheeple!.
He goes on to tell Madison how society will fall apart fast, the electrical grids will go down and this won’t get any better. He tells her she needs to take some supplies also. At this point they here an alarm. Madison tells Tobias that they must hurry and get out when they run into principal Arty. But it isn’t really Arty anymore. He is infected. Madison tried to talk to him but he just keeps creeping toward her, when they scuffle, Tobias intervenes and saves her. He uses his knife to stab Arty, but that doesn’t hurt him. They fall down the steps and just when you think it’s over for Tobias, Madison smacks Arty in the head a few times with an extinguisher. Madison 1, infected 0.
There is something about this young actor (Lincoln Castellanos), that makes you want to take him home. Will he be in more episodes of Fear? If not this season, maybe next year. I sincerly hope that with the out pouring of love for this character on Sunday night, the showrunners will take notice and keep him in the series for a long time! This is a character that needs to stay in the loop of the story. When Madison drops the boy off at his home, I screamed at my TV. He is the only one so far that knows and SEES what the hell is happening! I would have kidnapped the poor kid! I had to laugh while live tweeting with the show on Sunday night. All sorts of comments about how everyone loves Tobias and we even tried starting a #TeamTobias hashtag!. He is really sweet and it was fun tweeting with him! Do you thing that Tobias is for Fear, what Morgan is for Walking Dead? Let us know what you think!
Alicia tries to leave the house to be with her boyfriend Matt after promising to take care of Nick for her mother. Nick suddenly goes into a full seizure and she has to stay and help him. When Madison gets back with the drugs for Nick, she still doesn’t tell Alicia what is really happening. Why would you keep this from a loved one? What is her concern for Alicia? If you have an idea please comment.
Travis reaches out to Liza and they leave to try and find Chris. It seems as though Chris is caught in the middle of a protest, by a group of people that saw a homeless man shot dead by police. He is too busy video taping all that is going on between police and protesters. Social media is shown again in this scene, a mimic to real life tragedies that occur almost daily anymore. Do Robert Kirkman and other front men mean something by this? Chris is an activist of sorts, and wants to feel important obviously because his father Travis doesn’t make him feel that.
When Travis and Liz finally catch up to their son, he is in the midst of a battle, swat teams are called in, more infected are showing up and more police shootings are happening. They have to run for their lives and get caught up in the beginnings of street violence and looting. They find a barber shop, owned by Daniel Salazar, where he, his wife, and their daughter Ofelia also live. closing up and plead with him to be able to hide out inside. Daniel is not very willing but his wife tells him to let them stay. They close up the place and Travis calls Madison. He wants to head to the desert with the kids. Sje disagrees and their call is cut off.
Madison sees the danger all around. The neighbors that were have a birthday party earlier are now being attacked by a neighbor she saw coughing earlier that day. Alicia wants to run out and help them, but Madison slams and locks the door. Alicia still doesn’t know the extent of what is going on all around her. What will they do? Will Travis make it to them or will the family stay torn apart? What will they find if they make it to the desert? I guess we will have to wait a bit to see. Fear The Walking Dead is skipping a week. Join AMC on September 13th for episode 3!
