Now that you have had time to digest episode 4, what did you think? Did you notice that there were no zombie attacks or infected in this episode? To tell you the truth, I really didn’t miss any of those. This episode dealt with the incoming cavalry, and the human side of things. We are witnessing the fall of society and the ramifications of such.
We opened with Nick floating around, in a dirty pool, just being mellow, to the tune of an awesome song, Just a Perfect Day. Travis is jogging the neighborhood and Chris is on the roof, video blogging the things that are. Day 9. Chris records some strange light flashing across the way on the outside of their cozy little quarantined zone, Military presence and high fencing all around. It looks like a war camp. Are we supposed to believe that all this is normal?
Not a perfect day, to say the least, it is disconcerting. In the kitchen, Madison worries about herself being the only one who is doing anything around the house, cooking cleaning, taking care of the kids. She and Travis argue the fact, only to be told off by Alicia , that this is not NORMAL. The world is falling to chaos and she is finally getting it. Chris tries to show Travis that there may be someone human out there, but Travis brushes it off as a fluke. When will Travis see the light? Madison is scared for Nick, as he hasn’t been taking his meds. She worries, but Nick assures her it will be alright. Antagonistic Lt. Moyers, announced that there are rules and anyone trying to leave the fenced area will be shot. He tells them the camp is “Infected” free and that there is no life outside the fence. I don’t like this guy, he seems to be a pompous ass. Travis has been somewhat of a leader in their little camp, Moyers refers to him as the Mayor. Travis is fooling himself trying to be as normal as ever, still thinking that everything will be alright.
Moyers pulls Travis aside to get him to help with a very depressed neighbor, who is not handling this situation very well. Doug, has been hiding out in his room and won’t let the military examine or question him. His wife is concerned, his kids are scared and Travis talks him down. He tells Doug to tell his family everything will be fine. I think Travis is lying to this man and himself. But the ever optimistic Travis, gets the job done and the military gets in to see Doug. This really burns me about Travis, he is way too laid back and still not seeing the crap hitting the fan around him and is way too trusting of the military. He is a sheeple, a follower. I only hope that in the next two episode things get real for him and that he “grows a pair”, quickly.
Chris tells Madison about the video and shows her that someone appears to be signaling from outside the fence. You can see that she is believing that Chris may be right. Meanwhile, Alicia goes exploring in Susan’s hous and finds the suicide note that Susan wrote to her husband Patrick. She tells in the note that she has witnessed something and that it is surely time. This makes Alicia quite upset for her lost boyfriend Matt, and she takes a needle and uses it to tattoo the marker heart that he drew on her arm. Liza is busy taking care of neighbors who are sick and hurting. They all think she is a nurse, but we find out later that she really isn’t. She uses morphine to help out an old man and when she leaves the house, Nick is silently watching from the backyard fence. Once a junkie, always a junkie is what I was thinking. But to go in and steal the morphine from a dying man, is really low Nick!
Ofelia is off playing footsie with one of the soldiers. At first this really riled me up until I realized that she is being cozy to try and get meds for her mama. I was ok with what transpired then. Travis and Madison have a little sexual retreat in the car. They argue about Chris’ video. Madison believes there is someone out there needing help. They are interrupted by Doug’s wife and kids, who are frantic because the guy took off in his vintage car and they can’t find him. Travis takes them home and goes to find Doug. He only finds his car, empty with the door open by the fence. Does this mean Doug went over the fence? Madison ends up on the roof with a flashlight and signals to who ever is on the other side with the light. Travis tells Moyers about Doug missing, and finds that the military has taken him away somewhere. You can see the concern on Travis’s face, as he tells Moyer about the flashing lights out in the DZ . Moyers tells him, “there is no one alive out there” You can see that maybe Travis doesn’t trust the military after all.
This scene is pretty good. You have arrogant Moyers playing golf, (we have” porch dick” in Walking Dead, now we have “golf dick” in FearTWD), and Travis is speaking to him on the other side of the fence. Are they prisoners, or being protected. What do you think.? On the fence is a symbol for Revelations 21.4. Does anyone find it creepy that the words on the fence, shown in shadow on the ground, spell out Beast? This was caught by most die hard fans of the show and is circulating all around the internet for the past few days. Rev21.4 reads something like this, ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Pretty relevant right? Another “easter egg” that the showrunners may or may not have put in this episode, is the fact that one of the people walking up to get supplies from the military, looks alot like Chandler Riggs, aka Carl form Walking Dead. This is also going around the web with a fervor. You can watch again and tell me what you all think of these little goodies!
Madison takes bolt cutters and goes outside the fence. She goes down into the DZ. I think she wants to prove to herself that nothing is out there. What she sees troubles her. The overwhelming stench of death, the dead bodies. She notices that many of the victims were shot and she sees no sign of them being sick! Are their saviors, the military lying to them? When she goes back and talks to Daniel, she explains what she saw. I think she trust Daniel more now, he knows something. He told her the story from his boyhood, about people getting taken away, only to wind up being found dead.
“Men do these things, not because of evil, they do evil, because of fear” he tells her.
When a doctor from the government arrives and tells them that Hector, the old neighbor, was taken to a hospital nearby. The doctor wants Liza to keep lying about really being a nurse. She tells Liza that they need her, and wants to find out about all the sick people she has been helping. Liza also tells the doctor about Nick’s addiction. She examines Nick and finds his heart rate a little high. She then looks at Griselda. Dr. Exner tells Daniel she will take Griselda to the surgeons and he can go along. Everything seems fine. Of course it does…
Madison is looking around at Hector’s house. She discovers Nick in the bedroom looking for more drugs. She realizes that he has been stealing drugs from the man. She hits and slaps him down to the floor and tells him, “you have no idea”. I think she refers to all the things that she has had to do to get Nick the drugs he needs, including killing the Principal. Later that evening, the military and the doctor come knocking. They are told that there are two names. When Daniel tells them , yes he is going with his wife, they tell him no. Nick is the other person that goes. Alicia tells him to run and when he does, he is hit and taken down by the soldiers. Madison is frantic, and she blames Liza for telling them about Nick. Dr. Exner tells Liza to come along, and for a moment I think she wanted to stay with her son Chris, but then,I think, she realizes that this was her fault and she goes with the military. She tells Chris through the window, that she’ll be back. They pull away. Madison takes refuge in the garage with her liquor, and Travis goes up on the roof. In the distance, he sees the blinking lights that Chris told him about. He ponders this, as the blinking lights turn to gunfire flashes.
Secretly, I was really hoping that the person out there is Tobias.
