Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer Holds Few Surprises

By: Robert Prentice December 13, 2015
Movie News fox, Independence Day

Independence Day returns for a sequel that is a lot of the same, with only a few surprises. Just about every single original cast member is returning for the film including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A Fox, and many more. One major character and actor not returning is Will Smith. Many were upset over this but in the new website setup after the drop of the new trailer Warof1996.com, Smith’s characters fate is revealed and sets up for why he is not in the film. The director has commented that Smith opted out in favor of another Father/Son film After Earth, while others in the industry say it was due to money.

The only interesting twist from the trailer is that this resurgence and return of the aliens is met with an earth who manages to use the alien tech to improve their own weapons. I find this odd considering they had an alien ship for decades and made almost no progress but suddenly they have made massive progress. Don’t get me wrong, this is science fiction and it can all be explained away fairly easily. My guess is the excuse will be the crashed motherships provided far more tech to play with and thus adapt.

So tell us what you think of the trailer and comment below. ID2 hits theaters June 24th, 2016 which is sad, considering July 4th would have been a more appropriate opening for the film.

Independence Day

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
