Amazon and Starz announced a new partnership today, for those you who have given up (or never had) cable! Amazon’s subscription service, which already has tons of benefits, now has a new add on to be able to watch shows from Starz – for an extra monthly fee, you’ll be able to watch Starz on Amazon Prime. This fee is less than it generally costs to add these premium services to your existing cable subscription – which, by itself, is expensive. The premium channel – and others – will cost $9 per month ($9 for Starz, and $9 for Showtime). Other subscriptions are also available, including RingBoxing.
So you’ll now be able to watch Outlander (and Homeland, and Black Sails, and Power, and…) through your Amazon Prime membership! What else can you do with Prime? Prime gives you 2-day free shipping on most purchases, a free Kindle book each month, lots of free movies and TV, access to Amazon’s original video programming (Bosch, TransParent, among others), and many other benefits. I’ve had it for about 3 months, and I’ve saved at least my $99 annual fee. We pay about $140/month for our cable bill, including Starz and HBO – that’s EACH month, so if I can get the channels I want by paying $99 a YEAR plus $9 a month for Starz, that’s a great deal. And many new TVs and BluRay players (and the PS4 game system) have the ability to connect directly to Amazon (and NetFlix), so you may not even have to add new hardware to watch through your TV – although you will also be able to watch on your computer and mobile devices.

Amazon offers a 30-day free trial membership to Prime, and you can add a 30-day free trial of the premium channel streaming as well, which you can access through the link below. You’ll have to enter a credit card, and on that 30th day, you’ll be charged the $99 yearly fee unless you cancel before that – but if you miss that deadline, Amazon is great about removing and refunding the fee if you call to cancel shortly after that. So what can you lose by trying it? This is a great alternative to keeping a cable subscription just for Outlander, or having to wait until the season comes out on DVD.
