Meet ‘The Magicians’ Harry Potter For Grownups

I have seen the special preview of The Magicians, and my first thought was that the show is Harry Potter for grownups! I am not comparing the two magical pieces at all, but Harry Potter did come to mind while I was watching.

The Magicians is based on a trilogy of the same name, and written by Lev Grossman.I don’t know how it is possible that I didn’t know this book series existed, but now that I do, I will be reading them soon. The show centers on brilliant grad student, Quentin, who is chosen to attend Brakebills University for Pedagogy. Brakebills, like Hogwarts, is a secret university that specializes in magic. It seems magic isn’t just something you read and fantasized about as a kid, but it’s real, and a great danger to humanity. Syfy announced today that the first episode of this new series is available to watch right now as I publish this awesome news.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

NEW YORK – Jan. 8, 2016 – Syfy today announced that the first episode of its highly-anticipated series THE MAGICIANS will be available on Syfy.com and On Demand cable, satellite and telco TV platforms starting Friday, January 8. The episode will also be available on Facebook, YouTube, Perk TV and Roku the week of January 11. The series, from Universal Cable Productions, will debut on Syfy with a two-episode premiere on Monday, January 25 at 9PM ET/PT.

I mentioned Harry Potter because there were a few things that made me think of the franchise, such as ways to get to the university, don’t think Platform 9 and 3/4, but maybe more like Portkeys? You, as a viewer, might not be reminded of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, but this viewer was feeling that vibe. Check out the trailer below and remember you can watch on Syfy or on demand with your cable provider.
