This was a remarkable week on the set of Dark Matter because this was the week Syfy invited members of the press to visit, look around, and interview the cast and crew. The network was kind enough to invite yours truly, but the universe had it out for me and I was unable to go. The thanks go to a litany of circumstances, the details of which I won’t bore you with because it’ll only end in profanity and tears for me.
I’ve said it before – I don’t enjoy living in a linear timeline.
I’m assuming you’re a fan of the show, so I think you can imagine how disappointing it was for me to have to pass up this rare and wonderful opportunity. But I’m looking at the sunny side of the street – Many of the people who went are my friends and I’m happy they got to go. Plus, it proves that Syfy is pretty damned awesome for setting this up. I’ve visited the set of a TV show once (Falling Skies, 2012) and it was incredible, so I know my friends had a blast and will share all the good news when they can. For now, much of what was learned has to be kept secret until we’re a bit closer to the premiere. As River Song is fond of saying, “Spoilers!”
On to the week:
I’m going to gently usher in the week with Sunday’s post that looked back at some blog regulars, their first comments, and precisely when they made those initial remarks. It was fun seeing comments from the past and the post sparked so many more comments that the tradition continued into Monday.

Then there was Tuesday. That was the day known as Dark Matter Press Day, or The Day Tommy Stayed Home. Fortunately, sixteen other people were a lot smarter than me (no big feat) and they had a wonderful time. Just look at all those smiling faces in the picture!

Hitting the set early Wednesday morning was episode 207 director Jason Priestley. He fit right in and did one hell of a job. Plus, he brought some single malt for the Dark Matter Whisky Club! Anyone who comes bearing whisky is a saint and automatically one of the best people on Earth.
Thursday teased the return of everyone’s favorite pajama-wearing slimeball, Tabor Calchek. Okay, they look like pajamas. David Hewlett and Jodelle Ferland were seen together, which I hope means Hewlett’s character is going to be face-to-face with Five and the others sometime during season 2. Until then, you can check out a picture and a video of back when Jodelle guest starred on Stargate: Atlantis at the link.

An ominous image greeted visitors to Friday’s post and one we haven’t seen since the very first episode – A stasis pod running on emergency power. Not to worry, because a quick glance down the page shows director Andy Mikita bearing two bottles of whisky, instantly making him The Universe’s Bestest Human
Stargate fans should immediately recognize the name, as Mr. Mikita directed over 60 episodes across the 3 iterations of the franchise and was producer on nearly 100 episodes. The man is a bona-fide Stargate legend … with whisky! As if that weren’t good enough, you can also check out a cool mystery gadget from the props department and some gorgeous concept art from the VFX people.

It may be the weekend, but some people were working hard on a Saturday to make great television for all us sofa spuds. Joe shared some insightful writing tips, and in the process proved Bubba and Lulu are the real brains behind the operation – A suspicion I think we all share. He’s even given us photographic evidence.
Man, this blog has me spoiled, but not in the “OMG spoilers!! Imma have a spasm.” way, in the “let me pamper you with wonderful news and images” way. If you want to join in the fun, just visit Joseph Mallozzi’s Weblog for your daily dose of Dark Matter goodness.
And that caps off the week. Tune in next week – same dark time, same dark channel!
