“Lie Ability” picks up after “Amplification” left the pack trapped inside a locked down Eichen House with Lydia and Kira inside about to lose control and kill or hurt the people around them. Granted Lydia was bound to do more damage as her control weakened, but Malia’s predicament didn’t seem much better with Kira struggling to maintain control of her electrifying kitsune powers. Lucky for everyone, Lydia and Kira were saved…but by some very unexpected people.
Operation: Save Lydia
The biggest concern of the episode wasn’t Theo’s pack working with or against Scott’s pack or even the Hellhound’s role in this all, but rather saving Lydia from herself and Dr. Valack. Stiles knew the danger she was facing and got the pack together to form a plan to save her. As he was the only one who could pass the Mountain Ash, he was the only one in his pack who could get to her location. Unfortunately, with Theo’s pack and Dr. Valack working their own plans, Stiles’ rescue attempt was brought to a halt until Parrish showed up in all his Hellhound glory. While I haven’t been an extreme fan of Parrish (due to the romantic relationship with Lydia more than anything else…sorry Marrish fans), his development this season has been very interesting and “Lie Ability” really brought that to the foreground.
Obviously, everyone’s aware of the Hellhound’s role in fighting the Beast…at least to some extent, but what was even more surprising was his ability to save Lydia… and everyone else while he was at it. With Dr. Valack attempting to find out who the Beast is when it’s not all beastly, Lydia’s predicament worsened as her abilities began to consume her due to the hole in her head. Abilities, which apparently are extremely deadly. After losing some control and blowing away part of Dr. Valack’s head, it’s fairly obvious the person these are some of the scariest and strongest abilities. But when she was about to lose it completely, Parrish came in, enveloped her in his fire and took the blast…more importantly, he survived it and was able to bring her to safety because of that. He’s becoming a fair contender for best abilities with that, but it does make me wonder how strong this connection is between her and Parrish. How far does that connection go?
Theo and His Rat Pack
Scott’s pack weren’t the only ones trapped in Eichen House trying to get to Lydia, though for different reasons. Theo’s pack was making its rounds, getting in the way and then turning out to be fairly helpful. The more I see of Theo’s pack, the harder it is to completely hate them, though they still haven’t gotten me to like them much (besides Corey). They do seem to have some redeemable qualities with the exception of Theo and Tracey. We haven’t seen much to endear anyone to Tracey since she’s grasped her newfound chimera abilities and Theo is…well, Theo.
The rest of the pack, however, has shown some qualities that prove they aren’t completely corrupted by their asshat leader and chimera transformation. Especially Corey, Hayden (I still don’t like her, though) and to some extent, Josh. While I don’t like Hayden, she may begin to come around due to Liam’s influence and not being completely brain dead. She may even prove helpful to Scott’s pack, so I won’t rule out liking her completely. Corey seems like a nice kid forced into an unfortunate pack and situation plus he’s cute with Mason, so he gets a pass. In “Lie Ability,” Josh also proved he’s not completely terrible. When Kira was in trouble and Corey was suffering from severe burns caused by a certain Hellhound, Malia and Josh ended up working together to save their friends as well as their own asses. Josh was able to take Kira’s electrical overload while Malia took Corey’s pain allowing him to heal on his own. Josh’s actions helped to save Malia and Kira as well as his friend, so that’s something, right?
Meanwhile, while Theo has been hellbent on getting the Beast and will do anything to get what he wants, no matter the cost, he has been working with Scott’s pack in a way to go against the Beast. Pretty much everyone everywhere has already figured out he’s after The Beast’s powers, so it’s not out of the kindness of his own heart (or his sister’s heart), but that means he’s on their side helping them out. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right? Well…at least for the moment. Who knows what he’ll do once he has those powers. He does intend to work with Deucalion who will only do so if Scott is dead (or at least eyeless), so there’s that. At any rate, Theo is after the Hellhound and the Beast and that means he’s going to play nice until he gets what he wants. Only problem is the Hellhound isn’t exactly cooperating with him…and he’s sort of on Scott’s side anyway. Now that Lydia’s safe and both she and Parrish are out of reach, Theo has to form a new plan to answer the question of the night and get to the Beast…and he’s got with Dr. Valack’s fancy Dread Doctor style mask to help him. What do you think he’ll do with that?
“Lie Ability” definitely had some interesting developments with the Hellhound and Lydia. There are still some burning questions to answer, but now that the entire pack is back together, we may finally be able to get somewhere with them. Tune in this Tuesday to MTV to find out if any of our questions will be answered and tell us what you think might happen.
