We have entered a new world in episode 611, Knots Untie! As we saw in this episode, it is growing into a larger world. With the addition of Jesus, our group is finding out that they are no longer alone in this world.
This episode was an Abe episode in my opinion. We see Abe and Sasha, fresh off watch, chatting about things. There is something sweet about the way Abe interacts with Sasha. Somewhat like a schoolboy who is crushing hard. She tells him that she has taken another watch and they won’t be working together anymore. He looks disappointed. Eugen will be going out on watch with her now. I think that she sees how much Abe is into her and wants to distance herself from the complicated threesome. They say goodbye and part ways, and then he seems to wake from a dream. He is in bed with Rosita. They obviously have a sexual relationship. Rosita gives him a necklace she made from the broken taillight of the fuel truck. He is touched, he says she” is close to perfection”, and she replies,”‘show me”. What will all of this lead to?
Bad-assery exists, even if you are naked, as we found out when Jesus shows up in Rick and Michonne’s bedroom. He wants to talk and quietly sits on the stairway, waiting for them to get decent. Carl pulls a gun on him and asks how and why he is in the house, to which Jesus replies, ‘I’m waiting for your mom and dad to get dressed’. That was funny. Carl didn’t even blink. With that out of the way, all of the group seems to show up, with guns pointed at Jesus. They all meet up and go have the talk. Jesus is impressed with our group. He knows they have a great many guns and the ammo to go with it. But he also knows that they are low on food and supplies. He offers to take them to his community, to maybe broker a deal and trade.
The crew travels in the RV to Hilltop. Along the way, they spot a recent crash and walkers. Jesus is scared when he recognizes that it is his group. Our group is very wary, thinking it’s an ambush. They stop and try to find the survivors. Jesus is held at gunpoint by Maggie. They sweep the place and dispatch a few walkers and save some of the Hilltop group. One of the men they save is a doctor. Glenn and Maggie are happy, as he promises that he can help them out with prenatal vitamins.
Hilltop is a big place, not unlike Alexandria, but different. Their guards are brandishing spears. It’s obvious that they don’t have guns or ammo. Jesus orders them to open up. Inside, we meet Gregory. This guy is a real ‘HilltopDick’. He is full of himself and very rude. When Maggie is designated to be the deal maker by Rick, Gregory is short and keeps calling her Melanie. She does get irritated and tells him off. There seems to be no deal forthcoming here.
While at Hilltop, a few of their members, (minus one), who were on a supply drop to Negan, Ethan tells Gregory, that in order to get the missing member back, Hilltop has to give more to Negan and also this, Ethan has to kill Gregory! He stabs Gregory and all hell breaks loose, with our group and their group fighting in all directions. Rick, finally gets Ethan down, and stabs him in the next. Getting up all covered in blood, he looks around and says, “what?”. It was a pretty cool scene, just showing how nonchalant, everyday killing can be in this world. In this showdown, Abe almost gets killed, being choked by one of Hilltop’s men, he hears in the distance, Sasha’s voice. Is this who he is destined to be with? His life flashing before his eyes, until Daryl breaks the arm of the man choking him. In the fighting, Abe’s necklace from Rosita, falls off and lies on the ground. Foreshadowing? Yes I think so.
When things lighten up because of peacekeeper Jesus, Maggie goes to talk to Gregory, who is now laid up with a stab wound. Bantering back and forth, Maggie uses her newfound power, to get a deal done. Our group will take on Negan and his Saviors, and rescue their missing man, in return for half of all Hilltop has, plus a cow. The deal is done, but as Maggie tells Rick, “There will be a price”. Our group doesn’t really know what to expect from this new danger, but we do, don’t we?
So fully stocked with their spoils from the day, our group, plus two, get in the RV to travel to Negan’s camp, so they can check the layout and find out what needs to be done. Maggie had asked Gregory for one extra thing at the time of the deal and she gets it. Maggie and Glenn get a sonogram, courtesy of the new found doctor, and even get a takeaway photo of the unborn baby! During the ride, Michonne looks at the photo and passes it to Daryl, he ponders and passes it too Abe. I think they all realize the scope of this new life coming, and what it may entail in the future.
Many of the best and funniest scenes in this episode featured Abe. On the trip to Hilltop, he spoke to Glenn about “pouring Bisquick and making pancakes”, in referral to Glenn’s getting Maggie pregnant. It was a hilarious line. He talked of “wearing galoshes” and doubling up. I think that Abe has seen his life now. I think he is in love with Sasha, and I don’t know what will happen with the threesome in the end. I also fear that this newfound life altering moment of Abe’s is a foreshadowing to his demise. And I think it will come very soon. If you read the comic, you know what I am talking about.
