This episode was awesome! Twice As Far, is episode 614 on the roster. We only have 2 episodes left now. 2 episodes until we find out who will die at the hands of Negan!
This episode hurt. If you love a character and they get killed, it sucks. Big time sucks. Denise didn’t deserve this death. But more on that later…
Rosita and Spencer have had a little bedtime fun. Not a biggie. She is just rebounding from Abe. Carol kisses Tobin on the porch again. Not a biggie either, She is human. Rick examines the cell that Morgan is building. It’s a choice for next time. Not a biggie thrice, or is it? Everything is hunky dory in the land of Alexandria. That is, until some members decide to go out looking for goods.
Denise talks Daryl and Rosita into taking her out to a nearby apothecary, that may be filled with the drugs and medicines for the community. They don’t want to, but she is insistent. Daryl can’t drive a stick shit worth a crap, grinding gears all the way. A tree has fallen across the road, and they have to walk the rest of the way. There was constant fear for Denise through this entire episode. Every time you got that fear, things turned out alright. When they get to the store, they find the motherlode of meds. As Daryl and Rosita are filling the bags, Denise hears something and goes searching. She finds a room with a really gross walker and evidence of a little baby. She gets ill at the thought. On the way out after getting the supplies, they take the tracks. Bad move. I knew it would be.
In another area, Eugene and Abe are searching a big abandoned place. It is Eugene’s idea, that they use this as a place to make ammunition. Great idea, but he and Abe get into it about what it is the Eugene is really skilled at. When Eugene tries to kill a walker, it turns out badly. Abe has to rescue him, but that sets Eugene off. He has had it with Abe protecting him. He is a learned man now. He can do it himself. Right? Abe leaves him and walks away.
Back at the tracks with our little group. Denise tells Daryl about her brother Denis. This is the reason she likes Daryl. He is a reminder of her brother. Denise finds a walker in a car. Inside she sees a cooler. Thinking this is a needed item, she attempts to get it out. Rosita and Daryl say to leave it, but she insists. She gets the door open and struggles with the walker, who has fallen on top of her. My heart races again for her safety. They try to intervene, but she finally kills it. She gets the cooler, and inside is a 6 pack of soda, with one Orange Crush. Just what she wanted for Tara.
They tell her that it was a stupid thing to do, and she retorts with one of the best Walking Dead monologues ever! She tells them why she needed to do this, and how it made her feel. She tells Daryl that he makes her feel safe, and that Rosita is alone now, and she wanted her there because of this. Just when she is stressing the importance of this moment, she is shot through the eye with a arrow! Now this is what was deemed Abe’s death in the comics, but the writers thought differently. I hated it! Fans did too. She was their doctor for crying out loud!
Dwight has returned. He is the arsehole that took Daryl’s bike, and crossbow, and now he used it to kill Denise! And, they have Eugene hostage at gunpoint! Not much to be done here. Daryl knows now that he should have killed Dwight. Dwight’s entire side of his head is burned and scarred. This is what Negan did in the comic. It was his punishment.
Eugene tells them that there is someone hiding behind the oil drums, and when one of the Saviors approaches, Eugene, leans over and bites Dwight right in the balls! This causes mass confusion, and shooting, as all Hell breaks loose! Abe joins in, and when it is all over, some Saviors are dead, and Eugene is shot.
That doesn’t change the fact that Denise was killed ! This really sucked. She is there only doctor in Alexandria, she had a good life, plus the love affair with her and Tara, made for fair representation for the LGBT community. What will happen now to the people that need her? What will happen with Maggie, who is pregnant? This may be a speeding up of what happens in the comic, where Maggie is destined to be leader of Hilltop, as per the comic story. Oh well. When you love a character, don’t expect them to live forever. This is proven in The Walking Dead. The writers love to shake things up and make it the best damn show on TV! And we still have 2 episodes left to find out who “DOES” survive this larger world!
