There was gunfire. There was blood. Lots of blood. Did Dwight really shoot Daryl? Oh my Lord, I hope not. No one is safe. Ever. This was episode 615. East. Only one remains. The finale. I am truly frightened foe the last epiosde of the season. Are you?
We started this episode with alot of fluff. yes , I said fluff. It seemed to be all happy, and love all around, but that went quickly sideways.
Carol is seen early on, preparing her bag and sewing her jacket. She has left a note, found by Tobin. She explains that to stay in Alexandria, she must kill. That is something she no longer feels right doing. She is at a crossroads. Is it Faith or Morgan’s way of life that has her questioning herself. She is a survivor. She will be ok, I think.
Carl finds a gun and examines it. The gun has a baseball bat wrapped in wire etched on it. Is it a Savior gun? Is it Negan’s? Is this a foreshadowing?
Maggie and Glenn are seen in a loving shower moment. They truly love each other. He examines the bruises on her back and is very concerned for her. Rick and Michonne are in bed. They share an apple. Adam and Eve? Their love is evolving. I like it! Is all this love and caring the new normal for Alexandria? I would like to think it is, but it never lasts long.
Daryl decides to go out and find Dwight. He is angry and looking for trouble here. He wants revenge. The death of denise has him rattled. His crossbow. His letting Dwight live back then. It is his mistake and he needs to fix it. He is on a mission and no one can stop him. Michonne and Glenn, along with Rosita, decide to follow him. They are worried he is making a rash decision. Morgan also fears for Carol and decides to go find her. Rick insists on going along. Now there are 2 groups searching for her.
Carol ventures away from the safety of the community and runs into trouble. There is a roadblock. Saviors. She stops and gets out of the car and fakes her usual helpless self. Giving them a fake name and fake hometown, they know she is lying. They have been watching. She pleads with them to let her go, that no one has to die. She hyperventilates and is truly scared . I think she is on the verge of cracking up. Then as they approach, she fires off rounds, killing most of them. She has sewn the gun into her coat sleeve. One of the survivors tries to go at her and she skewers him on one of the spikes sticking out of the car. A gun goes off and she may be hit. She takes off. The lone survivor comes out from the bushes. He is injured but picks up her rosary and seems to follow her.
When Morgan and Rick come up on the scene of the massacre, Rick presumes thay are Saviors from the weapons and sees that Carol,is nowhere to be found. Fearing for her safety because of the blood trail left behind, they go off to search for her. There is a sweet little exchange between Rick and Morgan. Morgan goes on his little rant about ‘all life is precious’ and I think Rick gets why he does it. There is a “circle of life”, (Lion Kingish?) here. If Morgan didn’t keep the Wolf, and Denise hadn’t been taken hostage, and the Wolf saved her so she could live to save Carl and so on and so forth. ”Everything gets a return,” Morgan says. I don’t know about all that, but I think Rick gets it finally. They follow a trail and come upon a man in some kind of armor. He states he is looking for his horse, but Rick doesn’t buy it. He attempts to shoot him but is stopped by Morgan. Could this be the introduction to The Kingdom? There is yet another community not far off and they wear armor and are ruled by leader Ezekiel, more commonly known as “King” Ezekiel. (He is a main character first encountered in Issue 108 of Image Comics‘ The Walking Dead. He is the self-proclaimed “king” of a community called “The Kingdom“, the namesake of his own community. Ezekiel had a pet tiger named Shiva. Ezekiel is a friend of the Hilltop Colony and a close friend to Jesus. He also has a strong hatred for Negan and the Saviors, which caused Paul to bring Rick Grimes to him in the hopes of collaborating to defeat them.) In the end, Morgan wants Rick to go home and pledges to find Carol. I think there is a point to this. I don’t think Morgan will return.
On the other hand, our small group of Rosita , Michonne and Glenn are having troubles of their own. Rosita leads them to the tracks where Denise was killed and this is a bad spot to be. They find Daryl’s bike hidden, as he is lying in wait for Dwight. They join up and discuss the danger, but Daryl can’t be convinced. he has to do this. Rosita agrees to follow Daryl, she knows he will need help. Glenn and Michonne are left to go back home. When they are in the forest, men surround them. The Saviors! Dwight takes them both hostage!
When Rosita and Daryl come upon the hostages, Dwight sneaks up from behind and BAM! Daryl is shot, blood sprays the camera, and then Dwight is heard saying, “You’ll be all right.” The screen fades to black.
