Can you feel the excitement, the anticipation of something great about to happen? What you’re feeling are the waves of joy building as production on season 2 of Dark Matter nears an end. A lot of things happened this week, which isn’t unusual, but you’ll find out down below just how close we are to the end of season 2 production and a possible announcement of a premiere date! Soon, we’ll know when #SyfyFridays are going to be back!
We always like to start the week’s roundup on a Sunday because it’s usually a day of relaxation and fun for most folks. The Dark Matter gang are no exception and to prove that the day’s blog entry featured a “company picnic”. From the pictures at the link, it certainly looked like a beautiful day for friends and family, no matter how many legs you have.
The Monday morning blues were quickly swept away by news that another Stargate alum is directing an episode. If you go to the link, you’ll see Will Waring greeting you at gunpoint, and with a smile, no less. There’s also photographic evidence that Joe’s work method is to toss the carrot and make quick use of the stick. Happy Monday!
Oh, and longtime fans might remember it was Will who loves to hide pineapples in some scenes. We’ll have to be on the lookout for random, edible bromeliads in season 2.

The gifts of Christmas Past? Nope, it’s AKemi’s birthday presents. (Image courtesy Joseph Mallozzi)
It was Akemi’s birthday and Joe shared his unique wrapping skills with us. No, the picture above isn’t from last Christmas’ selection, those are Akemi’s gifts as wrapped … in April. Honestly, my gift wrap selection and manipulation skills are far worse, so I should just shut the heck up. The rest of the blog includes a short video of Akemi reacting to a special surprise and some dinner selections that’ll have you licking the screen. Not that I ever need a special reason to lick my screen.
Hump day was Election Day. This was the day we got to choose the title for episode 210, a task fans of no other show will find they’re presented with. There was also the special bonus look at the Reynaud destroyer, the design of which fans got to weigh in on in past entries. See what you’re missing if you don’t keep checking in?
The election cycle was a short one and the votes were tallied in record time. The episode title that you, the fans, picked for 210 is … at the link. You should know by now I’m not going to spill those beans all over here. I’m busy spilling beans in my lap as I type this.

Bipasha Ghosh, VP International Marketing, NBC Universal & champion of Dark Matter for Syfy International! (Image courtesy Joseph Mallozzi/Prodigy Pictures)
One thing I can “spill” is that today a special visitor arrived on set. It was Syfy International’s Bipasha Ghosh, Vice President International Marketing for NBC Universal. If you think Dark Matter’s just a hit in the US and Canada, think again. The show’s a gigantic hit overseas, thanks to the efforts of Bipasha and her team. If you like Joe’s Periscope sessions, you have her to thank. Thanks, Bipasha!
Finally, the twitter account mentioned in the title comes into play. Joe initially started the account, @DarkMatter_show, for dedicated live-tweeting during broadcast, but has quickly given it the secondary task of offering up behind-the-scenes pics. Click on the account name and follow for a generous stream of cool images.

One of the easiest to find pineapples Will Waring has ever placed in a scene. (Image courtesy Joseph Mallozzi/Prodigy Pictures)
Since I’m nice (most of the time), here’s one of those BTS pics. If you look closely, you can tell Will Waring must be somewhere nearby just by the dessert selection.
Today’s Dark Matter Digest is brought to you by the word “Soon”. There’s just a little over 2 weeks to go before production wraps on season 2, and there’s word that maybe the premiere date will be announced in a week or so! There are even more BTS pictures from season 1, like the construction of what I’ve dubbed the Big Damned Door which figured prominently last season. I especially liked the boys in the oxygen-starved scene where they were all acting goofier than usual.
It’s worth a click just to see the “Marcus Boone mugshot” video playback at the end of the post. The look on THREE’s face in the picture is perfect.
And now I leave you for another week, hoping you’ll click daily on Joseph Mallozzi’s Weblog and follow his awesome @DarkMatter_show Twitter account. I’ll be over here collecting goodies to tease you with next week!
