Dark Matter Digest, Apr 17: Qs for TWO … and Goats?

Dark Matter season 2 syfy

Every week of production on Dark Matter is full of fun tidbits of information and lots of behind-the-scenes pictures.  But this week was extra fun and extra picturesque!  We got the chance to “interview” Melissa O’Neil by asking questions in the comments of Joe’s blog and we also got to vote on another episode title!  PLUS!!! (Yes, it needed to be all caps with 3 exclamation marks. Not two, not four, but three.) Pictures of bloody meat hooks, frozen wilderness, and GOATS IN SPACE!  Suck it, pigs.

SUNDAY

Have you ever wished you could interview one of the stars of your favorite TV show, but felt it’s something unattainable?  Well, no more!  Today, and continuing through a good bit of the week, fans were given the chance to submit questions for Melissa O’Neil to peruse and hopefully answer.  This is a fan’s chance to actually interview a real, live TV star!  And it’s just one of many examples of what sets Dark Matter apart from every other show on TV.

There are also several pictures from a location shoot.  Some of those pictures indicate some very bad things are going to happen this season.  Just look at the one above and tell me it’s all unicorns and rainbows.  You can’t, can you?

MONDAY

An early location shoot quickly went from walking in a winter wonderland to Mississippi mud as the sun rose and shone on the beautiful snow, eventually turning it into an icky mess for all but pigs and mudskippers.  But fear not, because the Dark Matter team broke out a drone to fly over that icky mess!  That’s what I call thinking outside the mud pit.  A little bonus is the inclusion of a truly hilarious iPhone commercial featuring Cookie Monster and an outtakes reel that’s at least as funny.

TUESDAY

Tuesday celebrated the fact that season two is nearing completion, at least for filming.  It also brought us a lot of mystery pictures.  A mystery box, a mystery lab, a mystery crew.  It’s all very … mysterious.  Take that hall above, for example.

WEDNESDAY

Today is one of those days that’s a real fan favorite, because today was the day we voted on the title for episode 209.  Our choices were, This Isn’t Going To Be An Easy Smash And Grab, Going Out Fighting, and The New You.  Finishing out the day’s post was another VFX video I love so much.  This was a STATION LOCKDOWN graphic.  Who wants to bet our crew was responsible?

THURSDAY

And the winner is …  If you want to know which episode 209 title was chosen by the fans, you’ll have to click on the link.  I’m never going to spoil it here, but you can always find plenty of Dark Matter updates and teases at Joe’s blog, so click on over now to see what you’ve been missing.  When you get there, you’ll see several great logo designs from 1st Assistant Art Director Roxanne Borris.  Above is just one example of the beautiful work she does.

FRIDAY

The end of the work week (well, at least for most of us) welcomed us to planetary station Zawraq-4.  Judging by the raft of images in today’s entry, the exotic-sounding station is a lot less fun than the name might imply.  There are a lot of rules and goats.  Mom always said to stay away from rules and goats.  Mom’s kinda weird, but that doesn’t mean she’s wrong!

SATURDAY

With the weekend upon us, Joe weighed in on social media outlets and how he feels about each.  Most of the outlets have their advantages, and all of them have their disadvantages.  Trying to evenly hit them all up is next to impossible, but it seems Mr. Mallozzi prefers Twitter and is enjoying his recent foray into Reddit territory.  It’s also extraordinarily noteworthy that the end of 2016 will mark 10 straight years of daily posts by Joe on his blog.  That’s a remarkable achievement!

And this brings us one week closer to the season two premiere of Dark Matter.  There’s still no set date, but I can promise you we’ll have that news the minute it’s released, so keep checking back!  And thanks for visiting Three If By Space and Joseph Mallozzi’s Weblog.
