Lucifer S1 E13 Take Me Back To Hell – Review

By: Alyson Bailey April 26, 2016
TV Reviews FoxTV, Lucifer, review, season finale

This week relationships seem to have gone into opposite world. Lucifer and Amenadiel are working together and Maze and Chloe are teaming up to find Malcolm. As the title suggests, we see Lucifer go to his “home sweet home”. We are also left with a few big questions that won’t be answered until the new season airs.

I have compiled a few of the top moments in this episode. These are not necessarily favorite moments, but the more memorable moments.

We start with Lucifer standing in Lux taunting the young cop who is pointing a gun to him, he seems to want to be shot. When the cop panics and fires his gun, Lucifer vanishes. He appears on a rooftop with Amenadiel, who has decided he doesn’t want to kill Lucifer, but wants his help and even admits he was wrong!

Lucifer and Amenadiel go to Amenadiel’s fake office to work out how they are going to find Malcolm. While there, Dr. Linda walks by and Lucifer decides that she can help the two brothers communicate without the constant bickering. The two of them look like they are being chastised. Linda ends up saying something profound and meaningful that the brothers find helpful but they take her advice in the wrong way, as usual.

Chloe punching Dan was a definite highlight during this episode!

While Dan is looking for information at the precinct, he notices Lucifer and Amenadiel in his office. He goes in to find out what they are doing there. Lucifer is sitting at his desk playing with the junk on the desk and says, “Don’t move or wobbly head gets it!” Once Lucifer stops screwing around, they talk to Dan about Malcolm and learn that he has gone to an old brewery to talk to a drug dealer about money.

There is a great moment of brotherly togetherness when they arrive at the brewery and are confronted with a slew of guards and thugs. Amenadiel and Lucifer relish the chance to walk through a hail of bullets to literally knock some heads together. It’s an epic battle! When they are done, standing there with all the men lying on the ground, Lucifer puts his hand on Amenadiel’s shoulder and says, “and to think, we wasted all those millennia fighting each other.”

Maze and Chloe seem to be realizing that they may not be quite so different after all, when Maze learns that one of the reasons she’s a cop is so that she can shoot people.

Malcolm makes use of the demon dagger that he stole from evidence and sneaks up on Amenadiel at the brewery. Lucifer finds him lying there with the blade sticking out of him and bleeding. When Maze shows up asking what happened, Lucifer tells her that “He was stuck with a blade not of this world.” She tells Lucifer to continue looking for Malcolm and she will take care of Amenadiel.

Maze brings Amenadiel to the penthouse. They know that the only way to heal a wound made by the demon dagger is to use something divine. Maze grabs the case with the feather she saved from when Lucifer burned his wings. Even though she kept it to get them home, she uses it to save Amenadiel. It may be that Maze isn’t immune to human feelings and may have them for the angel. A divine light emanates from the feather and when it heals Amenadiel, the light shines out through all of the penthouse windows.

Chloe is at the precinct after the craziness at the brewery and her phone rings, it looks as though it is Trixie, but Malcolm is at the other end. He wants Chloe to bring the money he dropped and to come alone, without Lucifer.

When Chloe gets to the meeting place, she insists on him giving Trixie to her before she gives him the money. After Trixie runs and hides, Malcolm tells Chloe that he’s going to kill her anyway. Lucifer followed Chloe and distracts Malcolm so that Chloe can escape. While Lucifer is talking to Malcolm to get the gun from him, Malcolm shoots him! With Chloe nearby, Lucifer is in mortal danger.

Lucifer finds himself in hell. I did not feel that this hell was too terribly hellish, maybe we were seeing it the way Lucifer sees it. As he’s walking through, he sees a light ahead of him and goes to investigate. He says, “that can’t be right”, then “this is impossible”. There seems to be something very wrong, there is an open door.

Lucifer is suddenly alive and back in his body, he immediately goes in search of Malcolm. Lucifer stops him, and before Malcolm can lift his gun again, Chloe shoots him. Malcolm isn’t worried about dying because he has the coin, but he doesn’t, it’s in Lucifer’s pocket. I liked the effect when Lucifer tossed the coin to Malcolm and it burned up before it got to him. It also felt as though something might have been about to happen between Lucifer and Chloe afterwards.

Back at the penthouse, Amenadiel is recovering when Lucifer arrives, and Maze is nowhere to be seen. He sits down to talk to Amenadiel looking very serious and worried. Amenadiel asks him what’s going on, Lucifer tells him that someone escaped hell and he looks afraid. Amenadiel very seriously asks him, “Lucifer, who escaped hell?” Lucifer’s answer is “Mum”, leaving us with a gigantic question and we now must wait till the new season for an answer.
