Holy Hell AMC! What do a small town Preacher, a vampire, and a bad ass girl, have in common? I can’t tell you, my lips are sealed, but you are going to love it! AMC was smart to bring this beloved comic to TV! Preacher premieres on AMC on May 22nd.

Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse embarks on a journey to, literally, find God, joined by his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun).

The cast and character list follows:

Hugo Root (W. Earl Brown): Root’s the nasty local sheriff who, in the comics, has a life-changing encounter with Jesse Custer, leading Root to a shocking act of self-violence.

Eugene Root (Ian Colletti): He’s Sheriff Root’s abused son, and he’s more commonly known by his nickname, “Arseface,” after he was disfigured when he shot himself in the face in an attempt to mimic his idol Kurt Cobain’s suicide.

Emily Woodrow (Lucy Griffiths): She’s sort of the Preacher version of Daryl Dixon, in that Emily is a character created just for the TV series. She’s a single mom who works as a waitress, bookkeeper, and church organist, and she has a bit of a crush on Jesse.

Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga): Jesse’s ex-girlfriend and current love interest, who, raised by her father, has serious gun skills.

Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun): Why’s that dude holding an umbrella? He’s Jesse’s BFF, and he’s a heavy-drinking Irish vampire.

Donny Schenck (Derek Wilson): Donny’s a Civil War re-enactor who learns how much Jesse hates bullies when Jesse finds out Donny beats his wife. says, “Preacher” is one of the most celebrated comic book series of the modern era. The Vertigo series created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon follows small town Texas preacher Jesse Custer after he merges with a bizarre spiritual force, granting him a supernatural power know as “the word” and shattering his faith. He sets out with his dangerous ex-girlfriend Tulip and vampire best friend Cassidy to find God — and himself. Read it here.
