Spring 2016 Anime Top Picks

By: Robert Prentice
Crunchy roll Funimation Viz Media

Its that time of year again! Its time for us to give you our top picks for most anticipated anime releases of the spring 2016 season. My personal picks for the spring season are much lighter then our winter 2016 recommendations but the upcoming Summer and Fall seasons promise to bring back some great series that we are eagerly awaiting for. But enough of that for now, so which 4 anime series made our top picks for the Spring 2016 season? Here they are.

Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) – FUNimation

One of the most anticipated new series of the year, Boku no Hero Academia just might surpass the hype that has come with it.

There’s a new hero in town! From Studio BONES, the creators of Fullmetal Alchemist,Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy, comes My Hero Academia, a superhero origin story that soars to the top of the class.

Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where 80% of the population has some kind of superpowered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not going to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies. Now, the only thing standing between him and his first class is the academy’s formidable entrance exam—nothing a little private tutoring from the world’s mightiest hero can’t solve.

Episode one premieres on FUNimation (Simulcast from Japan) at 1am tomorrow (Sun April 3rd). If you are staying up to watch it, LIVE tweet with us and the FUNimation team on twitter : @ThreeIfBySpace, @JustRojas, @LaurMoor.

Sousei no Onmyouji (Twin Star Exorcists) – Crunchyroll

This series gives me the Akame Ga Kill vibe and I loved that series, so I am very much looking forward to this title.

Grotesque monsters known as Kegare reside in Magano, a realm parallel to the present day. Exorcists purify these evil apparitions to protect the people. Rokuro Enmado is opposed to becoming an exorcist, even though he has the talent to be one, but an oracle gives him the title of “Twin Star Exorcist”. Benio Adashino, the girl who receives the title along with Rokuro, is determined to exorcise all the Kegare in the world. The two find themselves wrapped up in more and more battles together as the Twin Star Exorcists.

Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV – Crunchyroll

Final Fantasy has a huge and successful line of gaming franchises behind it and Square Enix knows it. Brotherhood isn’t the first animated feature to come out of the FF series but the animation in this new special short series is incredible. If you were a fan of The Spirits Within, Advent Children or simply love the Final Fantasy series, be sure to check this out. Better yet, here is episode one for FREE!

BROTHERHOOD FINAL FANTASY XV is a new anime series consisting of five standalone episodes. BROTHERHOOD delves into the extraordinary friendships between Crown Prince Noctis and his three comrades, setting the stage for the adventure players will set out upon in the action-packed RPG. Subsequent episodes will be released before the game’s launch. All episodes can be streamed for free.

Hunter X Hunter (English Dub) – Toonami/Viz Media

Shocking fans of the series who have been trying for years to get the series on Toonami, the network announced it was actually going to happen on April 16th. Studio Bang Zoom worked on the dub and announced the following english cast for the series. Be sure to tune in to Toonami on April 16th to see the premiere of Hunter x Hunter in english.

– Erica Mendez as Gon Freecss
– Cristina Vee as Killua Zoldyck
– Matt Mercer as Leorio
– Keith Silverstein as Hisoka
