The Magicians: If I Was A Traveler Like Penny

By: Diane Selburg April 3, 2016
TV Outlander on STARZ, SyFy Channel, The Magicians

The following post is one that has been in the making for a while, at least in my head. When this fan of The Magicians found out that Penny was a traveler, I was beyond excited at the thought of how awesome that would be if it were possible. My mind started working overtime on all the possibilities at what having such a power could mean. Now, I know it is not real, but I am a dreamer, and a dreamer must dream.  I had so many ideas in my head of where I would go if I was a traveler, and today I can provide a specific answer for an event that happens tomorrow. Hold on to your hats, because we are about to travel.

I am a huge fan of the television show (and book series) Outlander and I had the opportunity to attend the season 2 premiere of the show in New York tomorrow night. Sadly, I had to turn it down, one because of a very short notice and even shorter funds, and two, for personal reasons I won’t go into on the blog. I am so happy that quite a few friends of mine are going, and I look forward to hearing about their epic adventure. Eric Conrad (everyone knows who she is) is among one of my lucky friends who will be attending the premiere, and I imagine she will have plenty of awesome stuff to tell us Outlander fans. You can watch this space for all of that amazing news!

This event brought me back around to my “Where would I go if I was a traveler like Penny” thoughts. Let’s says, for the art of my little dream that I completely mastered the fine art that is traveling, i.e. that I did not end up on the top of Mount Everest wearing my best beach outfit, and freezing to death before I could travel the hell off that mountain. Imagine all the places I could go, and with just a really concise, clear thought of my destination? I thought about how much money I could save on airfare, and all I would have to do is learn that spell that Hermione used to pack everything I wanted to take in my Donna Karan bag, which is already big, as it is!

I have been preparing for this moment, and I have looked at pictures of the American Museum of National History, so that when I magically travel there, I will be right outside the venue of the premiere. I will have one of my friends meet me there the morning of the premiere, so that I can get in some sightseeing while I am in NYC! I have everything I need in my bag, including a fabulous outfit, and an umbrella in case in rains.

I would go to Ellis Island, visit the 9/11 memorial, have lunch, and head back to my friend’s house to get ready for the premiere. Depending on how much time we have, we could grab a quick dinner, and then go enjoy the premiere of Outlander. Since this is my traveling dream, I also met the whole cast, and writer/showrunner of the show, and my friends and I all got invited to the after party. We all got pictures with the said cast and crew, and since it is still my dream, I was able to manage more than a hello. I am socially awkward in real like scenarios, so I would like to not be so in my magically induced travel fantasy.

So, my fellow fans of The Magicians, if you were a traveler like Penny, where would you go first? I might make this a weekly series, so let me know what you think! I might even ask you to email me travel ideas or leave them in the comments section, and I could give you the dream, in written form anyway!
