Welcome back to Weirdville USA! It’s been a long time waiting, but Wayward Pines has returned! Season 2 has started off slow, taking us back to the weirdest town we have ever seen. ‘Enemy Lines’, is the first episode of the new season, and I was not so impressed. Yes, I was as anxious as anyone to see the new season, but I had hoped it would start of with a bang. Instead, it has entered with a whimper. Now don’t get me wrong, the episode was alright, but I guess that I just wanted more.
We went into the episode seeing the same thing as last time. Ben, our young boy from last season, gives us a little backstory as to what happened in Wayward Pines last season. I assume that is for the folks who didn’t watch the series in the first season. That’s alright, I got that it was a good idea. But then we go onto the arrival of what I guess is our main character for this time round, Theo Redlin. Played by Jason Patric, he is on vacation with his pretty wife, when he runs into our old pal Sheriff Pope, who was the recruiter for madman, David Pilcher. And do I really need to tell you what happened there? As per last season, Theo, a doctor, was taken and wakes up 2000 years later in Wayward Pines. He is needed badly, as doctors are hard to come by. A dying patient, Kate, from S1, needs surgery and he is talked into doing it, believing he has been brought here because of some Governmental secret project.
How this will all pan out with the new leading man, is iffy. Ethan Burke, the main character in the books, which the series is based on, was killed off last season. That is a shame, because he brought much to the story. Now there are a few survivors from the first season. Because it is three years after Burke’s death, and the First Generation is now ruling the Pines, with an iron fist. Ben is leader of the rebel group of survivors. He is trying to stop the First from going down the same bad path as Dr. Pilcher.
Theo tries to escape from the First Generation, only to be caught and forced to preform the surgery on Kate. He knows that something is not right in the town, but doesn’t have a clue. The only thing that the First want to do is make Wayward Pines the way it use to be under Pilcher. They are solely focused on capturing Ben and his rebel band. And who do you think is leading them? It’s the creepy school teacher, played by Hope Davis, from last season. She is now in a wheelchair, but back to make things difficult for the survivors.
They trick Theo into staying to look after his patient, setting him up in Dr’s quarters. They tell him that his wife is on the way. He snoops around only to discover a patient, the kooky receptionist from last season, is being given electroshock therapy! He checks on Kate, and she tries to tell him he is from group C. He doesn’t even know what she is talking about. They set him up in a room at the hotel. On his way, he witnesses a young woman being arrested by force by the First. Zander, a First, who is also and insider for the rebel group, gets him out of the locked hotel room. Down in the town square, a meeting is called. It’s a reckoning! Remember, there are punishments for breaking the rules in the Pines.
Jason, the strong willed leader of the First, offers amnesty to all rebels in the town. He wants to work with them to bring back the Pines to the way it was. No one steps forward. He gathers 3 rebels and brings them up on stage.Jason says he has no choice . As Theo watches, the young woman the he saw earlier, is quickly killed in front of him. As Theo runs toward the stage, he spots his wife in the crowd.

Ben and his rebels, don’t want to see anymore killings, so they show up to turn themselves in. Jason takes them all into custody and also takes Theo. Back at headquarters, Theo and his wife reunite. He tells Rebecca, that it’s not safe and something is rotten there. Theo is told to get in the truck, and Zander is put in the back with Ben. They are driven to the wall, where Theo is knocked out, and the truck is driven through the gate to the other side. That is where all the Abbies are!.
Meanwhile back at the hospital, Creepy teacher Megan, visits with Kate. They talk about the past and Kate agrees to work with her. Megan decides Kate’s pain killer is low, and attempts to add something to the IV. Kate knocks her out of the chair, onto the floor. Kate has a scalpel and threatens Megan. She talks about how they could have done great things, but this is not a world that she wants to live in. “We were capable of so much, but now it’s your world, your future,” she says in her final line. “I don’t want any part of it.” Kate cuts her own throat.
Back in town, all of the phones start to ring, Remember that creepy stuff from season one? Back at the fence, Theo wakes up outside the wall, and witnesses the Abbies , throwing themselves against the electrified fence , trying to get in.
Just a video reminder of all the creepy things in this episode!
