The days of great 80s mystery/thriller TV were gone for the most part. Syfy and others have continued to go back and forth between reality TV and attempts at science fiction/supernatural/horror genre that fall flat. Super 8 is probably the closest thing to Stranger Things in recent memory that brings back this feeling.
The nostalgia that Stranger Things brings to the table reminds us of the good old days of 80s style mysteries and government cover-ups. This genre of TV is sorely needed right now in the age of vampires and zombies. Is it aliens? Government experiments? Or something more? The fact that we don’t know is what makes this series so intriguing.
The new series from Netflix drops all 8 episodes on July 15th. Fans are likely to be eating it up quickly and wanting more. Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine.
