More Gore in New Ash vs Evil Dead Trailer

Today marks the day that Starz has released a new trailer and photo for the second season of Ash vs Evil Dead, featuring ten episodes of pure bloody bliss for Evil Dead fans. Still in a half hour format, it is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell, and Ivan Raimi; Craig Degregorio is acting as the executive producer and show-runner.

In the second season, Ash unfortunately has to leave behind his life in Jacksonville in order to go back to his hometown: Elk Grove. It is here that he must come face to face with Ruby once more. Unfortunately, Elk Grove becomes overrun with evil and Ash must work with Ruby once more in order to save the world. Let’s hope she doesn’t screw us all over again, right? In the new promo photo that was released alongside the trailer for season two, we see a deadite lurking in the background, ready to attack while Ash and Ruby look ready to take on whatever is coming their way. Ash seems to have a new hand, and he still has his trusty shotgun. Ruby looks poised, tough, and ready to do what needs to be done.

It's a chainsaw party!

It’s a chainsaw party!

While I enjoyed seeing Lucy Lawless (playing as Ruby) star as the main villain in season one of Ash vs Evil Dead, I am extremely excited to see Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless fight together again. I’m positive that the witty remarks will be just as great as ever and the chemistry will be just as fun as it was in Xena: Warrior Princess. Speaking of this alliance, let’s not forget that Ted Raimi will be playing the part of Chet Kaminski: an old childhood friend of Ash’s. Seeing these three on screen together again brings back fond memories and I know that this second season will be memorable.

Ash vs Evil Dead will also be starring Ray Santiago (playing as Pablo), who is currently dealing with the terrible events that happened in the cabin. Dana DeLorenzo will be reprising her role as Kelly Maxwell, who is still focused on revenge against the deadites that possessed her mother’s rotting corpse and killed her father. Lee Majors will be making his first appearance on this show as Ash’s father Brock Williams, while Michelle Hurd will be Ash’s old high school girlfriend.

The trailer features plenty of blood, lots of use of his trusty shotgun, and a shot of the chainsaw in use that brings back memories of Evil Dead 2. There is even a strange scene in which Ash battles with someone’s intestines, which means these guys are planning on giving us even more than what we got in the last season. This is a true continuation of the Evil Dead franchise. Is it possible that this season will be better than the last? I think so. They know what the fans want and they are going to give it to us. I have complete faith in what they can accomplish. You can check out the trailer here.

There is one scene in this trailer that I am particularly interested in – a simple flash of what looks to be a doctor holding a hand puppet of Ash with his chainsaw. Who is this doctor, and what is the purpose of the puppet? While I haven’t found any answers regarding this character, I am fairly certain that this is Joel Tobeck, who played as Strife on Xena: Warrior Princess. While this has not been confirmed, it seems as if most of the old gang is together again, with Joseph LoDuca, Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Michael Hurst, Lucy Lawless, Rob Tapert, and Sam Raimi all taking part in Ash vs Evil Dead. It wouldn’t surprise me – and in fact, I would be excited – to learn that this really is Joel Tobeck. On the subject of this mysterious character, I am reminded of the events that took place in the Evil Dead: Regeneration video game. Will we have another crazed doctor on our hands, fighting to use deadites for his own personal gain? While this trailer has brought up more questions and answered little, it does the job. It has us ready and geared up for the return of Ash vs Evil Dead. October can’t come soon enough.

Let the boomstick do the talkin'.

Fans of Evil Dead and other projects that Bruce and Sam worked on in the past will not be disappointed by this new season. It seems to me that these guys have pulled out all the stops just for us. If you haven’t had the chance to check out Ash vs Evil Dead yet, there is still a chance for you to redeem yourself. You can view the first full season on the Starz app on Chromecast, Apple TV, iPhones and iPads, Google Nexus Player, Sony Android TV, as well as most Android phones, tablets, and TV devices.

What do you think? Are you happy about the extra blood and guts in this trailer? I most certainly am. We are here for more Evil Dead, after all. Who do you think this mysterious new doctor is? What’s up with the puppet Ash? Will Ruby betray us all again? Let me know in the comments!
