What the Hell is a Stiles? – Lydia

Have you recovered yet from that unexpected twists tonight on Teen Wolf?!  We’ll get to that a bit in more depth in a moment, but let’s break down what happened first.

Stiles is now gone, erased from reality as the pack knows it.  No one remembers him, but there is an itch in everyone’s memories that is very much Stiles’ shaped.  As their day goes on, those itches start to become hard facts – someone is missing.  Deaton explains it best when comparing their lost memories to phantom limb syndrome: when you have lost a part of yourself but your brain still thinks like it’s there.

I really enjoy the Teen Wolf writer’s weaving of memories in this episode where the past and present are causing problems with each other in their minds.  Scott and Stiles were best friends since they were kids so that would be a lot of Scott’s childhood moments altered.  Stiles was Malia’s first relationship, and he is her anchor.  If she can’t remember him, how does she have that ability to keep control.  And Lydia… admitting she’s been looking for someone all day and that she thinks she loves him. Three strong connections that are making the Ghost Rider’s erase job like your browser history – it looks gone, but someone looking hard enough will find the things you shouldn’t be looking at.

Meanwhile, Corey’s “chameleon” realm allows him to see the ghost riders – and things that the taken leave behind?  Both Mason and Corey see the Riders when they are taking someone in the library.  Does this mean they are going to be next on the Ghost Rider’s list, or is it only when the Riders choose to reveal themselves to you that you are lost?  I guess we’ll have to wait and see next week if my newest favorite couple are in danger of being way too cute for their own good, and from Liam’s dirty looks.

Corey being the bigger man and talking to Liam about how their riff is making it hard on Mason was great to see.  If Liam is going to end up running the pack when Scott is gone to college, he is going to need to learn to play nice with people he can’t get along with.  I mean, look at Scott and the Twins back in season 3B. I’m hoping that this instance of teamwork on finding Jake’s ID will help continue to foster some trust between the them.  I’m really liking Pack 2.0, so I hope they keep forming the same bonds that Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Malia have.  Heck, right now it may be the thing that keeps them from being forgotten!

However, one big thing to point out here is this: if Corey can bring that ID card back from the other realm – what else can he bring back with his powers? Maybe he can bring people – and if so how does that change the erasures?

Lydia hearing the train that jolted her out of her sleep: this one is easy if you’ve seen any of the promos for the season.  The place that you see all the taken people hanging out is an old train station.  I’m willing to bet that it’s a link for Lydia to be able to find where they are.  My only complaint: I just want to know where they have been hiding a train station – heck a train SYSTEM – in Beacon Hills for these last few seasons?!?!?!

And can we talk about her writing “mischief” in the shape of Stiles’ name?  I had this figured out last week, and TVLine just confirmed for me, that this is going to be a clue as to Stiles’ real first name.  Now I’ve looked up Polish boys names that begin with M and mean “mischief” and have gotten bupkiss.  If you have found any, tweet me at @ThreeIfBySpace and let me know!

Now, for the big twist: HOLY RETURN FROM THE DEAD BATMAN!!!! Claudia Stilinski is alive!  Now, before we all go down the “well if Stiles didn’t exist maybe she would still be alive” you need to look back at the examples set up by Scott, Lydia and Malia – nothing in their past changed; they just can’t remember the person who they did these things with.  If you follow that same logic, then Claudia would still be dead because she died of her disease.  Her being back in Beacon Hills has to be a result of something else that we aren’t seeing yet.  If this is true – does this open the door to other people who have died in the series coming back? *cough*Allison*cough*

Either way, this means we’re going to get to see some Sheriff/Claudia moments this season… and we can spend all season worried about losing her all over again. Will Sheriff get to have both Claudia and Stiles at the end of this series? I honestly hope so since those boys could really use her back after everything they have been through since they lost her.

So what’s the come next?  Scott is going to be looking for his best friend and it looks like he’s pulling the Stilinskis in to help him.  The Riders are coming for another member of Beacon Hills teenage set and the younger half of the pack are going to try and protect her.  Will we get to see Stiles and what he is going through in the land of the forgotten?  And when will Mr. Bourne and Mr. Bohen show up on the screen?  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Let’s take the conversation over to Twitter for the week.
