I am really enjoying this season of Walking Dead. They are taking us in a new direction, to a new world. ‘Service’, gave us a 90 minute episode. And that time was not wasted in the least. We are talking serious plot development in the episode. This season will have a different feel. We will be shown how bad things really are for our group, and how they will survive through it.
When Negan shows up early to Alexandria to pick up ‘his’ stuff, Rick is surprised. He gave them a week to pull it together, and it has only been a few days. Of course Negan’s entrance had to be a spectacle. The ‘little pig’ part was creepy. And guess who he brought with him. Daryl of course. Negan is an ass, and everything he does, proves this. To flaunt Daryl, in the faces of the people who love him, and the whole of Alexandria is not very nice. Negan and his group are there for one reason. To make sure that Rick’s group continues to be punished. They haven’t acted like this at Hilltop, or at The Kingdom, but Rick’s group need to be taught a lesson.
To see poor Eugene in this episode, is heartbreaking. He is so downtrodden. hes working on a audio player for Negan’s group. Rosita is filled with hate, you can see it in her eyes when she looks at Negan, Spencer is an weenie, and has the nerve to ask Negan who he is. Well this won’t bode well for him. Hopefully he gets his comic death soon! Dwight makes Rosita and Spencer go out to get Daryl’s bike. And Rosita finds a gun with no ammo.
One of the best scenes in the episode is Negan meeting Father Gabriel. Negan is bugging Rick about Maggie and wanting to know where she is. he taunts Rick, talking about Abe and Glenn, and turning to Daryl to blame him for that. Father gabriel redeems himself even more, by pretending that Maggie didn’t make it and is now buried. Negan gets creeped out by Gabrial, and it is very funny to watch. Negan is then taken to the grave.
Another scene that wasn’t highly noted, was when one of the Saviors took all the green balloons from Enid. He taunts her. It reminded me of the scene with Beth and the creepy cop with the sucker. Clearly there are some really bad men in this group. Enid, holding onto those balloons, in memory of Glenn. That got to me.
Of course stuff isn’t ready, so Negan decides to ransack all the house, for what ever he wants. But when Carl shows his balls and threatens Negan’s Saviors with a gun, that is a mistake. When he sees that there isn’t much food, he very happily decides to let them keep that. Teasing Olivia, and making snide remarks to Rick about her weight is nothing. Negan decides to check the inventory log for the guns, and claims all as his own. When 2 are shown to be missing, he threatens Olivia’s life, because it was her responsibility. Negan is all about responsibility. Rick scrambles to find the missing guns and goes on a search of houses. Spencer’s house is first. He fails to think about the sniper rifle that Michonne keeps hidden.
Negan makes Rick carry Lucille around Alexandria. Of course, this is still Negan’s way of mentally controlling Rick. There is constant mental abuse from Negan in the whole episode. I am not a comic reader, but have been told how Negan works and how he acts. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is excellent in the role. The fast talking, lewd, sarcastic, and creepy way that Negan acts is spot on in my opinion. Rick has to address the folks of the community in the church. he tries to make them understand that he is no longer in charge, Negan is. Rick does find the guns, hidden at Spencer’s house, and turns them over to Negan. Olivia is spared. The Saviors are busy taking whatever they want. They take most of the mattresses from the house.
Rick confronts Michonne about the rifle. he wants to give it to Negan. I can see where he is coming from, if it’s found on them, it would be bad. Rick wants Daryl to stay, but Negan says no. On further thought, he does give Daryl the choice to stay and Daryl just drops his head. Rosita and Spencer return with the bike, and she is hiding the gun. Negan and the Saviors have done all they could to strike terror in the community. Negan accepts the rifle from Rick, and takes the deer that Michonne has killed. They load up all the items they took and leave. They will be back soon.
Rick approaches Spencer about the hidden guns. Spencer is such a dick, He is actually pissed cause Rick went in his house! Rick puts him down and calls him weak. Spencer retorts with ‘oh,how lucky we all are,’ then proceeds to make a dig about Glenn and Abe. I can tell you this, If I was Rick, I would have killed him right there and then. His death can’t come soon enough for me.
Rick and Michonne make a pallet on the floor, All the mattresses where taken. There are no more guns. Michonne argues that they have to fight. Rick wants to play by the rules and have some sort of life, but Michonne isn’t buying that. He talks to her about Judith, and finally admits, that Judith is Shane’s daughter. Wow! We have waited to hear the truth along time. Rick wants Michonne to accept what they have to do to survive. She agrees they will try.
The ending scene…the pile of mattresses that the Saviors took are burning.
Oh and by the way…remember the scene with Michonne that clearly shows and almost focuses on a Morse Code poster? And then think about the scene where Daryl is blinking kinda weird and Rick notices it? Was morse code involved her and if so, what did Daryl blink out? Some say its the word East.
