Teen Wolf 6×04 Review: Relics

By: Alison Sky Richards December 8, 2016
TV Reviews MTV, teen wolf

So two weeks after Corey brought the ID back from the other realm, now Teen Wolf explores the fact that those who are taken can leave things behind.  “Relics” explores the idea that even while the Ghost Riders can erase a person from memories, they can’t completely eradicate their existence.  I guess it’s just proving that even the Ghost Riders aren’t perfect.

Meanwhile, Liam and Scott are working on dealing with the aftermath of the Ghost Rider having been viewed by everyone at the lacrosse party, making them all “next” to be taken.  Their big plan is to lock everyone up in the Argent vault!  Yeah, like that was going to work, and I know all of us watching were happy when Nathan was finally taken.

It was also very disconcerting to see that the Riders could shoot Parrish and extinguish his HellPuppy flames. I hope he’s not hurt any more than that. The episode never went back to see the after effects of the bullet on him.  It’s a big change from the previous episode where they just disappeared when he confronted them. How are the Riders and their HellPuppy going to handle each other moving forward?

I’m also not happy to see that Argent took a lot of damage in this – especially from enemies he couldn’t see. His trying to help Malia with control was very reminiscent of him helping Scott with Liam back when Liam was going through his first shift. Plus in the beginning and his patience with Melissa tagging along in the woods? Precious. #OTP

I have to admit that I was happy to see the sophomores being proactive in helping.  Mason is an amazing character and I’m really glad we didn’t lose him to the beast.  His idea on the lightning to create a tracking program was pure genius.  Liam’s plan to try and fight the Riders was a bit impulsive, but even Scott admitted later that he should have listened to him more.

Seeing Mason, Corey and Hailey supporting and following Liam at the end gave me hope that they are going to be a strong pack like Scott and his friends are – when they aren’t listening to the likes of people like Theo that is. Speaking of which – we still have yet to see his reappearance.  I wonder what the writers are waiting for in bringing him back since they haven’t worked very hard to keep the fact he’s coming back a secret.

So while all that is happening, you have Lydia starting to drive herself crazy looking for evidence of Stiles.  We got to see more “ghosts” talking to Lydia, guiding her to the crappy wallpaper job in the Stilinski house.  Claudia, of course, stops her before she can find anything which in returns raises Lydia’s suspicions of her.

It was interesting to see Melissa, Natalie, and Lydia working together to figure out what was going on with Claudia.  Sure, there is no evidence of her having a child – but there is the frontotemporal dementia in her record.  How is she still alive – and sane – for having the disease for ten years?  It looks like the mystery behind her reappearance had gotten a bit more interesting.  I’m still standing behind my theory that I discussed in my episode preview.  On top of that, it’s showing that technology is going to be a big problem for the Riders to overcome since it’s been used against them.  Why they haven’t tried to type in Stilinski into the library computer and see if he comes up is still beyond me.  Maybe because they can’t spell his first name?

Whatever it is, I do hope that finding Roscoe the jeep is going to help start breaking down the walls to lead them to the train station and Stiles so we can get him back and see what kind of problems ripping him back into the real world creates.  I’m not liking the fact that Scott and Malia are starting to give up on Stiles but in their reality I can understand that it’s hard to focus on saving someone you can’t remember.

Oh, and speaking of that train station – those who were on Twitter Tuesday night were treated to a sneak peek of next week’s episode from the Teen Wolf official twitter account.  This video gives us our first view of Peter Hale since season 4, where he has been, and just why the fact they are in a train station is not a good thing.  Lucky for you, I have it below ahead of my preview post I’ll be putting up this weekend.

So what did you think about this week’s Teen Wolf episode?  What pieces are you waiting to reveal their next twist?  And if Corey isn’t able to bring Stiles and all the others back to reality – what other ways do you think it could happen? Perhaps Peter and Stiles – both very cunning people in their own rights – may work together to save themselves?

Hit me up on Twitter at @aliskyrichards and on @ThreeIfBySpace with your thoughts, and then join me Tuesday as I live tweet the East Coast airing of Teen Wolf.  Also, if you’re still needing help with shopping for a friend who is also into Teen Wolf, make sure to check out my Holiday Guide for the Teen Wolf Fan.  And as always, remember to subscribe to the site to keep up on all the latest Teen Wolf news as I hear about it.
