…and there’s gonna be trouble! Heya, heya, my boyfriend’s back! The Resistance is back – but not everything that looks like resistance may be genuine, I think. I’ll give you a quick update on where we are at this point – I apologize for not getting a review out last week, but I’ll blame it on Burke limiting my computer access, since nobody likes him at all.
Broussard’s gang is experimenting with the wristband they took off the alien – they figured out that it can call a drone. Once the drone powers down, it just hovers there, unmovable – that was freaky. I think they were trying to take it back to their hideout with them, but it didn’t move. Morgan, though, stuck a camera on it – smart move! Now they can track it. And from the drone, they learn some very interesting things. These things are hella scary. BB and Morgan have isolated the audio signal from the drone – and what can they use this for? Maybe to put a virus into the other drones? Control one or more of the things? Confuse signals sent to them? If they can figure out how to use and manipulate the audio signal, the possibilities could be amazing.

Will and Katie still aren’t settled. He’s still trying to talk her into just doing what needs to be done to keep their family alive, and she’s looking at the bigger picture. “The only thing that matters is riding this shit. And we’ll both do whatever it takes to do that, right?” Like women everywhere, she bristles at having to play “the little woman,” but right now Will thinks this is the safest path.
Snyder is learning some interesting things, too – following what they think is a prisoner/bombmaker blowing himself up, Bram is set loose on full mole mode, tasked with finding out who is behind the bomb. Maya tells him to give Snyder two names – “they know what they signed up for,” she tells him, assuming that the worst that will happen is a trip to the Factory. But they didn’t count on Jenkins – is he just a fervent believer? A sadist? Or is he covering up something, not wanting anyone to possibly reveal some secret that he thinks they know about him? What is it that Maya and her group plan to blow up that will be such a huge gamechanger?
Broussard brings the audio signal to Hennessey, an engineer. They meet in a small old movie theater. Did you figure out what movie was playing? The best I can figure out is that it was Sahara, starring Humphrey Bogart, a WWII film that’s quite appropriate to the tone of this show.

And the Red Hand returns, brazenly bombing the TA headquarters. I’m sure there must be more resistance than just Broussard’s little cell, but does anyone else think that perhaps the Red Hand could be a tactic of the TA to get the people to believe they’re safer with the collaborators, that the resistance poses more of a threat? OK, this is stretching it a little, but it sure seems like the kind of underhanded thing that someone like Burke would think of.

Katie has a brazenly bold moment – downloading the file that Maddie opens on Nolan’s computer. What else could be on this file besides Bram’s location? It’s certainly not an Excel file, that’s for sure.
And this week, Morgan, BB and Simon are under scrutiny, and worse. The Global Authority has found Simon’s mother in northern England – the device they’ve pulled off the Rap must be really important to have the investigation go halfway around the world.

It’s a dangerous item, though – it’s given BB radiation poisoning. This doctor that Will grabs to help them is an old acquaintance, but what gives him status to live in the Green Zone? It was very smart of Katie to photograph him caring for BB – it’s insurance that they hope they’ll never need.

And again, Will is required to take a life, but this time it’s an act of mercy, one he lays on Broussard as he gives him the shell casing from the shot that kills BB. Katie reads him the riot act, and tells him that he needs to be there with the “kids,” to protect the cell. He needs to making contacts outside, he says, because they’re not ready to it. “Then get them ready. You need to get your house in order – before it comes down on all of us,” she reprimands him.

The biggest mystery of the night are the pods that Snyder reluctantly lets Nolan see. What are these for? What will they carry, or grow? Why does Nolan want to know what’s being shipped off planet? And what’s in all those other crates, why is so much stuff being taken? What did you think of Snyder’s call to Helena? There’s obviously no loyalty between Nolan and Snyder – but is there between Helena and Snyder? Is he just trying to gain some favor points in case they’re needed?
Let’s start adding up what we know about the aliens.
We still don’t have any end game, but we do have some info.
- First contact was in the 1960s. Once the first signal was detected, there must have been some kind of response from Earth – and likely from the US, since it was our space program that found the signal. So for how long has the development of this program been going on? And how did the aliens convince humans, and, we presume, the governments around the world, to agree to any of this? With a threat of force, or a view into whatever Maddie saw during her “initiation” into the Greatest Day organization?
- Physically, the aliens are humanoid. Snyder, wearing earphones, got a glimpse of them inside a cold building, in the dark. Do they make a sound harmful to humans? Do they come from a colder atmosphere? Do they have problems with sunlight? Are these part of their requirements to be on Earth?
- They’re technologically advanced. And they’re building something on the Moon – it’s definitely possible that they could have been using the dark side of the moon as a base for years. That could be part of the (fictional) reason why we haven’t had a manned moon mission for over 40 years – because the government made an agreement to stay away. It could be where the segments of the Wall were built.
- They’re bringing a huge amount of Earth items “off planet” – who knows what besides art work? Why? Could it be, a la last year’s Children of Earth, to preserve it once the planet is destroyed? If they don’t plan to destroy humanity or the planet, are they just interstellar burglars?
