This second half of The Walking Dead, season 7, is going splendid! Episode 710, ‘New Best Friends‘ aired on Sunday night and it was a great episode all around. We, along with our beloved group, are on the road to all out war, and I am so excited! Are you? The best part of the episode was the Daryl and Carol reunion, but I’ll get to that in a bit.
We were all anxious to find out more about the GPK, the new group, now known as Heapsters or Scavengers. We met the lovely Jadis, she will be a force to reckon with I think. They are all a little strange in the way they live, and the way they speak. Rick sees the importance of this group, as future war allies. Will they be friends in the long run? I think not. I know they can’t be trusted. They want guns, but will they use them against our group? They are too used to waiting for people to get their goods, and taking advantage. Just the thought of Jadis pushing Rick off the trash heap, into the waiting spikes of Winslow, their pet spiked walker, made me really pissed off. Although I had no doubt that Rick would survive the fight and come out victorious, he did get injured. Will this play into anything in the future? You know there is always speculation into the fact that he lost a hand in the comic.
I really liked the way Father Gabriel stepped up and won over the new group, with suggestions of getting things for them, if they agree to help in the fight with Negan. He has really come around in the pasty 2 seasons. I like where his character is at, and he has redeemed himself many times over. We know now that the ‘boots’ person that spied on him, and later took him hostage, is Tamiel, the right hand woman to Jadis. Now that we know Father G is not a traitor to the group, maybe we will see more great things from him. Seth Gilliam is such a versatile actor, its great to see him in action on Walking Dead.
We all know that Richard from the Kingdom, may become a problem. In a big way, he almost got people killed and really pissed of Daryl in this episode! His total lack of respect for the Saviors that come for the pickup, really showed how reckless he is. He was hotheaded and quick to rile up the creeps, forcing Morgan to take some action, resulting in the loss of Morgan’s beloved stick. It was a gift from Eastman and it is Morgan’s virtual power. So what will become of this loss? Is it a foreshadowing into what Morgan may or may not become, in the rest of the season? I think so. There are quite a few rumors circulating that Morgan won’t survive to season 8. Young Ben is another to keep watch on. He means a great deal to Ezekiel for some reason, and he has learned quite a bit from Morgan now. He is getting good with the stick. I only hope this doesn’t get him killed.
Daryl’s run in, and interaction with Richard was a priceless scene. Richard, fully invested in getting the Kingdom to fight Negan and the Saviors, really showed in his reckless behavior. His trying to talk Daryl, who is ready to fight, into starting some sh*t with a group of Saviors is really stupid. But when Richard mentions that he has set up a plan, involving a woman living outside the Kingdom, Daryl is instantly intrigued. Richard tells him that this woman may die, or that she should be dead already, and this angers Daryl. When he demands her name, and finds out its Carol, all hell broke loose. When he fought Richard, my excitement for seeing the old Daryl exploded! I am so glad to see and hear the Daryl that we came to know so long ago. That being said, Richard better watch his butt around Daryl from here on out!
The long awaited reunion between Carol and Daryl was totally epic! Fans of the show have been putting these 2 characters together since they met. They had not seen each other in so long, that it felt like it would never happen. When he came to her cabin, the look on her face was pure shock. His asking her “why did you go”, and her response,”I had to”, surely made many of us cry. I know I did. When she asked him about what had happened, if everyone was ok, I shuddered a little. I thought he might tell her about Abe and Glenn, but he didn’t. He knows her so well. He knows that if he told her the truth, she would go off and fight Negan herself. Carol is fragile and broken, and has lost so much of herself. If she were to do this, surely she would be killed. So, even thought this wasn’t the romantic scene many of us wanted, his being with her again is important. There is a deep abiding love and respect that they have for each other. I am satisfied.
After finding out if Ezekiel is probably a good guy, Daryl decided to leave for Hilltop. He trusts what Morgan and Carol think, and Morgan must be the one to turn the King’s head around to fight the Saviors. Daryl knows he must rally with the others to get this all out war party started. He has a really great interaction with Sheva, the tiger. She seems to like him and he likes her. This is a good thing. I thought it was precious, but that’s just me.
Next week’s episode will be mainly Negan , Eugene and Dwight focused. I don’t know if I’m ready for the Eugene scenes, but hope he is ok. See you all next week!
