A Doctor Who Preview – Peering Beneath Thin Ice

It’s almost here. Soon, Whovians everywhere will learn what lurks beneath the thin ice of the frozen Thames. From the earlier promo, we know it’s a creature that eats people. It’s always a creature that eats people. For once, I’d like to see the Doctor run across Cookie Monster. I’m not sure how a story like that would play out, but it would be fun to watch. Plus cookies!

In this preview, which appears to be set early on in the episode, Bill is again quite bemused by their situation. I love that girl. She’s the perfect kind of companion – Fearless (mostly), curious, intelligent, and able to enjoy the wonders of time and space without losing her shit.

Okay, time to digress.

Bill thinks they’re in a parallel universe, but the Doctor sets her straight. He explains that they’re in London at the site of the last great Frost Fair held February 4th, 1814. What comes next is left up to our imaginations. Thankfully, we won’t have long to wait to learn what’s really happening. Thin Ice airs Saturday, April 29 at 9/8c.

Episode synopsis from the Radio Times:

In Regency England, beneath the frozen Thames, something is stirring. The Doctor and Bill arrive at the last of the great frost fairs and find themselves investigating a string of impossible disappearances – people have been vanishing on the ice! Bill is about to discover that the past is more like her world than she expected, and that not all monsters come from outer space.
