Today, at Star Wars Celebration, writer-director of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, unveiled his movie’s first teaser.
Feast your eyes. Even though the run-time is only a little over two minutes, you’ll swear your perception of time has slowed down. We only get glimpses, like any good teaser, but those glimpses are chock-full of Star Wars goodness. Stuff like: Rey training with Luke. Finn recovering in some kind of pod. Poe and BB-8 in deep trouble with their hangar exploding around them. General Leia at a tactical holographic display, leading the Resistance.
Watch to the end (as if you wouldn’t) and make sure you can hear the audio track. There aren’t many words, but what’s there is very important.
I predict that Rian Johnson is looking to set a new bar for darkness (metaphorical, not a lack of lighting) in a Star Wars movie. At least that’s what I get from what Luke, my childhood paragon of righteous heroism, said at the close of the teaser.
