It’s that time of year again! The lives and deaths of our favorite TV series depend on the powers that be at each major network. I can happily say that The CW is keeping its DC superhero lineup alive for the forseeable future (was there any doubt?). That means The Flash and Arrow are safe–and will likely do another crossover event with Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. If that’s not reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is!
To be fair, these shows received early renewals back in January, but it’s still nice to see them on this official list. The Flash was “quick” to be renewed (I always enjoy a little word play) for its fourth season and Arrow wasn’t far behind, setting its sight for a sixth season. According to this article from TV Line:
Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas,” network boss Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.
The whole lineup may have started with Arrow, but due its popularity, The Flash has become more of the “flagship” show, racing ahead of the others in ratings.
The Flash is The CW’s top series, averaging a 1.2 demo rating — which equals or bests 22 of the Big 4 network dramas — and more than 3 million weekly viewers (in Live+Same Day ratings); Supergirl follows with 2.7 mil and a 0.9. Arrow, Legends and Supernatural tie for third, each averaging a 0.7 rating season-to-date.
