Hopefully for your sake, you don’t find uninvited guests or strangers in your home as a matter of course. In this preview clip from the upcoming Doctor Who episode Extremis, the Pope himself wanders in quite unannounced. After some expressive words in Italian, he exits by way of the same door he entered through.
Bill was having a nice chat with a friend; a friend who might one day become something more than just a friend. Normal enough, right? Then the Pope steps into the room and turns the situation wonky in a very Vatican-Meets-Gallifrey kind of way. It’s hard to have a “normal” moment in your own life when the Doctor becomes part of it. But it’s a small price to pay for adventuring throughout all of time and space.
Episode synopsis for “Extremis”:
In the Haereticum – the Vatican’s secret library of blasphemy – there is an ancient book known only as The Veritas. Throughout history, anyone who has ever read it has immediately taken their own life. Now a new translation is online, and the danger is spreading. The Vatican appeals to the Doctor. Will he read The Veritas? But can even the Doctor survive the ultimate truth?
