From the promo and sneak peek clips, we already know the Doctor goes to the Vatican this week. Called there personally by the Pope, he’s been tasked with solving the mystery of a book known as The Veritas. It’s one of those annoying books that makes readers kill themselves when they’re done with it. I’ve read a few books that were so bad I felt I wasted part of my life, but never wanted to end it, not over a book.
In the clips, we saw a creepy hand and a glimpse of Missy. In this generous gallery of 23 photos, we see the rest of what’s attached to the creepy hand. It ain’t pretty, folks. We also see another shot of Missy, the Doctor wired up to something, a mysterious light at the end of a tunnel, and … the Oval Office? The Doctor is hanging out at all the posh places. First the Vatican and now the White House (again). Sounds like a great gig, if it weren’t for all the monsters trying to kill you and everyone else.
Episode synopsis for “Extremis”:
In the Haereticum – the Vatican’s secret library of blasphemy – there is an ancient book known only as The Veritas. Throughout history, anyone who has ever read it has immediately taken their own life. Now a new translation is online, and the danger is spreading. The Vatican appeals to the Doctor. Will he read The Veritas? But can even the Doctor survive the ultimate truth?
