Fox announced today that they will give The Exorcist, a second season. With the first season ending in December of 2016, this has been quite a long hiatus for the fans of the show who were dying to know it’s fate. Based upon the classic 1973 film of the same name, Fox debuted their version of this classic in the fall as a 10- episode arc.
Jeremy Slater, the show’s creator, is a huge fan of the original book and film. A fact that was very evident in how well he crafted this story and kept it within the same universe as those works. While the show didn’t have the best ratings overall, there was a huge fan-base that grew each week with every single episode. Fans have been waiting (very impatiently) for this great piece of news from Fox. During the long wait from the season finale to now, a “Fear the Feathers” campaign was started and every week fans of the show would send in renewal pleas with red feathers, an iconic image from the original, and now those pleas have been answered.
With a rock star cast featuring Ben Daniels, Alfonso Herrera, and Geeena Davis The Exorcist hit it big with both fans and critics alike prompting Fox finally give it a green light for renewal. The end of season one definitely keeps the story options open and Slater has been working out what a season two might look like for quite some time now, noting that The Exorcist “has a lot more story to tell.” Only time will tell where Slater and crew take season two, but I expect great things to come for The Exorcist.
