With the return of “Killjoys” just days away, the anticipation of what this unique gift to the sci-fi entertainment realm is starting to ramp up. And for me, it begins and ends with one simple question – where the hell is Johnny off to?
If you remember, Johnny dealt with the death of his beloved Pawter at the hands of Delle Seyah in a most direct way – luring Seyah into a fake meeting and putting one in her belly. Personally, I liked the direct revenge approach, though that little smirk Seyah seemed to have as Johnny walked away makes me wonder if we’ve really seen the last of her. However, Johnny must have felt some satisfaction and it seemed that that was that. Of course it wasn’t. Johnny, it appears, was hurting badly.
Johnny, Dutch and D’Avin seemed to be having a nice little after-revenge, the mission was a success, sort of drink when things kind of went off the rail. Johnny has a celebratory drink at the bar, talks of needing some air and next we see him packing bags and getting ready to go on walkabout to who-knows-where.
Lucy insists on a proper goodbye and we are reintroduced to Clara, who is going to tag along with Johnny as he apparently goes rogue. All of which leads me back to my original question – where the hell is Johnny off to? That promises to be one of a myriad of questions that season 3 of Killjoys will likely bring to the front for its rabid fan base beginning with EP 301 on Friday, June 30, at 8 p.m. on Syfy. One thing’s for certain based on the previews and photos we’ve seen — Johnny is sporting a new look.
If you’ve seen the trailers for Season 3, you get a nice taste of what the next months may offer. From snappy quips to Dutch engaging in butt-kicking to even a little more flesh on display, the new season of Killjoys should take our trio (I hope it will still be a trio) of bounty hunters on quite the wild ride in dealing with old enemies and new threats. Dutch essentially called for war in the aftermath of Pawter and Khlyen’s deaths and there’s still Aneela to deal with at some point. Seems inevitable that Dutch and Khlyen’s daughter are going to meet face-to-face this season – and that should be, in a word, interesting.
In the interest of full disclosure, this is my first trip around the Killjoys realm. I’m taking over the duties of following this fun-looking sci-fi adventure from Erin Conrad, who had been the writer and reviewer the first two seasons. While I know I have big space boots to fill, catching up on the show’s past, while looking towards its future leads me to believe that it’s right up my alley. So forgive any forthcoming missteps, and we’ll see what adventures this show provides for all of us moving forward.
