The disappearance of the ninth Roman army is real. There are no records of it beyond the year 120 AD when it just seems to have simply ceased to exist. Now, after all these centuries, Doctor Who shows us what really happened to those soldiers. It’s much more spectacular and scary than any historian could have ever imagined.
The “next time” promo doesn’t give away much, but what it shares is pretty exciting. Strange creatures are roaming the countryside and may be responsible for the disappearance of 5000 Romans. Somehow these creatures and some strange force is also “eating” the light, plunging the world into darkness.
“Every hour of sunlight defeated makes the world darker and the beasts stronger.”
A hunt for the lost Ninth Roman Legion leads the Doctor, Bill and Nardole into the middle of an ancient battle that could cast humanity into the dark forever. What is inside the cairn? And how far will they have to go defeat the terrifying alien Eaters of Light?
