It is a great year to be a Code Geass fan. Lots of new items are being released for the series that will keep fans going. First Akito The Exiled was just released on blu-ray and dvd in english dub by Funimation. Now, a mysterious countdown on the official twitter account for the series reveals the news that the compilation trilogy of recap films now have a poster and dates. Two spin offs for the series were also announced.

The recap films will cover the 50 episodes seasons 1 and 2 of the original anime. Some new cuts of animation are expected in the 3 compilation films. The three films are titled: Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch – Kōdō (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – The Awakening Path), Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch – Handō (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – The Rebellion Path), and Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch – Ōdō (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – The Imperial Path). The first film is set to open in Japan on October 21, the second film in February 2018, and the third film in May 2018.

According to Anime News Network, “the franchise will receive two new spinoff works that will launch this fall on the official website of Yatate Bunko, Sunrise’s new light novel imprint. The first spinoff is titled Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch Gaiden – Shiro no Kishi, Kurenai no Yasha (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – Lancelot & Guren), and it will center on stories about both Suzaku and Kallen that were not portrayed in the original story. Bisui Takahashi (Shūmatsu Sekai no Spellbreaker light novels) is penning the scenario, and Takahiro Kimura is drawing the character designs. Astrays is responsible for the new Knightmare Frame designs.

The second spinoff is titled Code Geass Danshō – Mosaic no Kakera (Code Geass Story Fragment – Piece of the Mosaic). The work will be an omnibus work that will focus on six different protagonists whose lives are affected and changed by the events of the main story.”

The continuation of the series, season 3 technically, was code named Code Geass: Fukkatsu no Lelouch (Lelouch of the Resurrection). In a fairly massive spoiler (if you have not seen the original), they did reveal one interesting fact, Lelouch is returning, Lelouch himself from the previous anime. He is not an alternate dimension version or clone of the original person.

The story itself is set to take place several years after Zero Requiem. It is not yet known the circumstances around Lelouch’s return. The director had said at the end of R2 that he died, and that was the end of it. However, the promo at this event reveals that he is revived and returns. Plus the code name for the new series pretty much backs that up. No details on the format of R3 have been revealed yet.
