It’s time for second term, and the assassination classroom is ready for a semester filled with intense training, studying, and new ways to kill their teacher. But things aren’t all that they seem and this new semester is proving to hold more secrets than answers. And the biggest question they have to face: do they save the world or save the world’s greatest teacher?
Class 3-E returns for second term as they continue to come up with ways to kill Koro Sensei. We finally get the truth about Koro Sensei’s past and true identity. And one of the members of 3-E is in a way related to Koro Sensei’s past. After revealing his true intentions, the class is divided on whether to try and save Koro Sensei or kill him. To hash it out, they do a combat drill in teams to decide whether the class will work towards killing or saving Koro Sensei.
Nagisa and Karma ended up on opposite sides of the debate. Karma wants him dead, Nagisa wants to save him. This leads to one of the best combat scenes we have had in the series, period. Watching Karma and Nagisa go head to head was worth every bit of build up over the past 2 seasons. While they are worlds apart in strength, Nagisa has the raw talent for assassination that Karma that cannot compete with.
In the end, class 3-E completed its mission and protected the earth from destruction. It wasn’t without a long drawn out emotionally filled roll call of the students prior to the head of the class finishing the job: Nagisa. The series was one of the first on Funimation’s DubbleTalk show and it was one of the most fun to go through the motions with. A unique mix of serious content and humor, mixed with science fiction.
As you might expect, there was a far amount of filler episodes throughout the series but even those were fun and enjoyable to watch. Unlike so many anime which never get a satisfying end, Assassination Classroom does. Things are wrapped up in the end and you get a satisfying conclusion to all the story lines built up over the past 2 seasons. For me, the best part of the series was the Nagisa and Karma relationship and character building. They remain some of my favorite characters in recent anime. The Season 2 Part 2 of Assassination Classroom Blu-ray/DVD set comes with 12 episodes, trailers and a Top Ten Moments from season 2 featurette.
