Killjoys: Dutch, Aneela And A Parlay In ‘Reckoning Ball’ – Preview

Are you ready for some surprises? Good, because you’re gonna get a few this week. Delicious surprises, the kind that leave you feeling satisfied and hungry for more. Curse these Killjoys writers and creators for their ingenuity and beguiling storytelling.

This week’s episode of Killjoys, “Reckoning Ball,” answers some interesting questions about how the Scarbacks came into being, their relationship with “The Lady,” and why they decided to get involved in the coming war. Oh, and then people start dying by an unexpected guest. It’s good stuff.

The drums of war are pounding loudly now as Dutch continues down a self-destructive path even when it seems there might be a way to avoid it. The green giveth and the green can taketh away and this week’s episode offers a little bit of both as a plan that could save her and trap Aneela comes together, then falls apart thanks to an old Hullen-infected nemesis. We also get a fairly cool womano-a–womano fight that draws blood and some nice quips.

Pippen returns to lend his always joyfully terrified nerdy voice to the fray and we get a bit of a flashback to our “Pirates of the Caribbean” roots when an enemy arrives to invoke the word “Parlay” on the gang.  Delle Seyah has a big surprise for D’avin and there are questions that need answers  – some that will be good and others that aren’t quite so joyful. Turns out, the Hullen are still determined to take the Quad, but offer a potential olive branch to save all that fighting that seems imminent. Johnny, in his usual cool and direct style, snaps that branch over his knee.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember, though, is that things aren’t always what they appear to be, particularly where Aneela and Dutch are concerned. While one prepares to die, the other dispenses some death far closer to the battle than anyone thought she’d be. This week’s penultimate episode sets a lot of things in motion that (hopefully) will come to a tasty conclusion in the season finale a week from now. The pieces on the board are now in place. This week we get to see some of the first moves for the fate of the Quad.
