Haven’t really found anything new this week. But, as I am wont to do, I took a stroll through Amazon…

Some Things I Found When I Searched “Voyager”

  • The Voyager Record:  Late summer 1977: two identical robotic spacecraft launch from Cape Canaveral. Their divergent paths through the solar system take them past gas giants, icy moons, asteroid belts, and eventually into the unknown of interstellar space. There, they will continue to travel on forever, the fastest moving objects ever created by humans. The Voyagers carry a message from Earth, a phonograph record plated with gold containing 27 songs, 118 images, and greetings in 55 languages meant to summarize all life on our planet for the extraterrestrials who might one day encounter the crafts. THE VOYAGER RECORD: A TRANSMISSION is the record of that record: a history in fragments exploring how legendary astronomer Carl Sagan and his team attempted to press the entire human race into a single groove. Combining elements of poetry, flash fiction, and essay, Anthony Michael Morena creates a collage of music, observation, humor, and alienation. Giving the 38-year-old original playlist a B-side update, Morena’s THE VOYAGER RECORD calls out to its namesake across the billions of miles of emptiness: Send more answers.
  • Revell Star Trek Voyager Model:  needs to be assembled and painted. Comes with many parts to curse at when you can’t find them.

  • Voyagers! Season 1 (Amazon Video) Join Phineas Bogg (Jon-Erik Hexum) and Jeffrey Jones (Meeno Peluce) as they travel through time fixing history in all ground-breaking 20 episodes of this cult-classic show. From the Titanic to ancient Egypt, when the time-travelling Omni blinks red, our intrepid time travellers rush to fix the space-time continuum and make sure history gets back on track.
  • The Farthest – Voyager in Space BluRay Launched in 1977, NASA’s epic Voyager missions revolutionized our understanding of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and their spectacular moons and rings. In 2012, Voyager 1 left our solar system and ushered humanity into the interstellar age. BONUS FILM: Second Genesis explores the scientific quest to find life or evidence of it beyond Earth.
  • Transformers: The Last Night Voyager Edition Autobot Hound Converts, in 21 steps, between robot and 4×4 vehicle modes.

There’s More to Life

Several of us got together last Sunday to have a trading card box opening party. Any time Outlander fans get together, it’s a good time!

Just finished Daniel Silva’s newest Gabriel Allon thriller, House of Spies. Silva is in my top 5 personal list of favorite authors. Next up: Michael Connelly’s The Late Show, first in a series with a new protagonist! Connelly is the author of the Harry Bosch series (another one in my top 5 author list), which has been made into the Amazon series Bosch.

Around TIBS

My book review for Reincarnation Blues, something I got at SDCC – this book is truly excellent, and will satisfy both your need to read excellent sci fi, and your need to examine your life.

If you’re a Killjoys fan (and if not, why not???), here’s John Baker’s excellent exclusive interview with Kelly McCormack, one of this season’s breakout new cast members!

And if you’re looking for the truly weird, but oddly profound in your TV viewing, you should be watching Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, starring Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and, this season, Alan Tudyk (Firefly). First season is available at BBC America, and the second season comes up this fall – here’s our preview!

This Week’s Poll

Results from last week: Nearly 42% of respondents said they have one beloved copy of each of the Outlander books. But a third of you – and thisis where I fit in – have multiple copies, signed, unsigned, TV tie in, hardback, paperback… the more the merrier!
