San Diego Comic Con 2018 — Returning Reg Complete

Comic-Con International’s first sale for San Diego Comic Con tickets has come and gone. This morning several thousand eligible fans logged into the EXPO Logic Waiting Room and had their SDCC 2018 fate decided by the spinning blue wheel of luck. While several thousand fans all came away with some sort of badge, several thousand more didn’t get the opportunity to purchase before all allocated badges were gone.

Comic-Con International has been using the EXPO Logic Waiting Room since 2014, and while there is always the possibility for some tech glitches, overall the process seemed to be fairly efficient. The waiting room always opens at 8am PDT and closes sharply at 9am PDT in order to randomly sort groups of those who were present in time. I find that the hardest part of badge registration is the waiting we all do before it starts. Shortly after 9am PDT hopeful buyers are sorted randomly into groups and then slowly moved into a sales screen to make a purchase. Just over 20 minutes into the sale, Preview Night was sold out, which is understandable since it’s more limited. Slowly but surely other days began to sell out, Saturday, Friday, Thursday and then finally Sunday.

Not everyone came out victorious though, as just over an hour after the sale began, all badges were sold out. But hope is not lost! Comic Con International hosts two different badge sales: Returning Registration (which is only open to those who attended the previous year) and Open Registration. Though less people are trying for badges in the Returning Sale, the tickets are never guaranteed. But fear not, if you didn’t get everything (or anything) that you were hoping for today, Open Registration is eligible to anyone with a Comic-Con Member ID! As long as you weren’t one of the lucky few who snagged all four days plus Preview Night, you are able to participate again in the Open Registration.

No further information has been give about when Open Registration might occur, CCI is sticking with their vague, “late 2017” answer. Want to participate in the Open Registration? Make sure that everyone in your party has a Comic-Con International Member ID! Without warning CCI will remove the option to create a new ID, no ID = no Open Registration. So if you want to attend in 2018 make sure that you make a Member ID as soon as possible. Make sure that you don’t opt-out of receiving emails from CCI in that member ID account and then just hang tight. Sometime later in the year Comic-Con International will send out registration information for the Open Registration sale. Where thousands will once again try their luck at badges for San Diego Comic Con 2018.

As a reminder, here are the prices for San Diego Comic Con 2018. For those buying multiple badges, keep in mind that there will be an additional $5 fee added for each Member ID at the checkout screen.
