Doctor Who — New Images — Jodie’s Costume

BBC has released the first image of Jodie Whittaker in her new costume as The Doctor, and I could not be more pleased! Seeing the new Doctor’s costume is kind of a rite of passage, for both the new actor and for fans of the show. We’re always hungry for that first peek of how our new Doctor will look and if any past incarnations had some influence to the feel. Well my friends, Jodie has found her look and I LOVE it!

I love that they didn’t doll her up, she looks stunning, but she also looks strong. And while I do hope that the 13th Doctor is comfortable with her feminine side, and that she’s written well in that regard, I’m so happy she’s in pants and sensible shoes. I mean, traversing around the universe does often include running in the Doctor Who world, I’d hate to see her stuck in heels. I also love that she’s got so many other hints of previous incarnations in this outfit. The stripe across her shirt instantly makes me think of Colin Baker’s 6th Doctor coat and Tom Baker’s 4th Doctor scarf. Those fantastic pants remind me of Patrick Troughton’s 2nd Doctor. The boots and suspenders scream Matt Smith and the 11th Incarnation. While the length of the coat echos David Tennant the 10th and the color of it, Sylvester McCoy and the 7th. Jodie will take over as the 13th Doctor starting next fall with a brand new season of Doctor Who.

Casting a female in the role kicked up some controversy with the Whovain fan-base, but as with each new incarnation of the Doctor, we need to give her (and the new show-runner) a chance to show us how amazing they can make Doctor Who be! What are your thoughts on the new cast members? What are you hoping to see happen in the new season? Hate or love her new look? Let me know! By leaving a comment here or finding me on social media! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
