Funimation Announcements at Chicago’s C2E2

By: Robert Prentice April 6, 2018
Anime News Crunchyroll, Funimation

Funimation has revealed more exciting news at their industry panels this week. Chicago’s C2E2 is going on right now and just revealed at that panel were some acquisition and dub announcements that I am pretty excited for. Check out the latest adds to the Funimation catalog.

Acquisition (Home Video): Assassination Classroom Live Action Movies

The official title for the films are Assassination Classroom the Movies (Live Action). If you have read the manga or are familiar with the anime, this seems like a series that is going to be difficult to do live action but that doesn’t stop them from making them. Funimation has licensed the home video rights to the live action films from Japan.

Synopsis: The killer manga comes to life in this two-part movie series. Join the students of Class 3-E as they learn to become proper assassins and try to kill their teacher. But he’s no ordinary instructor—he’s a tentacled creature with a thirst for destruction! And while they train to take him out they quickly learn there’s more to Koro Sensei than a will to kill which could put a damper on their mission.

This will be subtitled only. Expected release date is 08/07/18. The cast are as follows

  • Kazunari Ninomiya as Koro Sensei
  • Ryosuke Yamada  as Nagisa Shiota
  • Jiyoung Kang as Irina Jelavic
  • Kanna Hashimoto as Ritsu
  • Kippei Shiina as Tadaomi Karasuma
  • Maika Yamamoto as Kaede Kayano
  • Masaki Suda as Karma Akabane
  • Masanobu Takashima as Takaoka
  • Miku Uehara as Manami Okuda
  • Mio Yuki as Yukiko Kanzaki
  • Seika Taketomi as Rio Nakamura
  • Seishiro Kato as Itona

English Dub Cast Announcement: Twin Star Exorcists (Home Video Release)

One of my favorite new shows on Crunchyroll, Funimation has now grabbed the home video rights to this series. Crunchyroll produced the dub.

Synopsis: He vows to never use his powers—she wants revenge for her family. But when a prophecy states that 14-year-olds Rokuro and Benio will be the parents of the child destined to save the world, things don’t go as planned. Only their combined powers can defeat the invasion of monsters from another realm. Which means that before these two can have a baby, they’ll have to raise a little hell.

The cast is a pretty stellar line up, with Bryce Papenbrook headlining the team as Rokuro Enmado, Todd Haberkorn, Johnny Kong Bosch and more. The home video release date for the series is July 24th, 2018. Check out the full cast list.

  • Bryce Papenbrook as Rokuro Enmado
  • Cassandra Lee Morris as Benio Adashino
  • Laura Summer as Mayura Otomi
  • Vic Mignogna as Yuto Ijika
  • Erica Lindbeck as Kohana
  • Todd Haberkorn as Ryogo Nagitsuji
  • Joey Lotsko as Kinako
  • Alex Evette as Kinu Furusato
  • Brian Beacock as Shinnosuke Kunizaki
  • Kate Higgins as Subaru Mitejima
  • Johnny Yong Bosch as Shimon Ikarugaon
  • ADR Directors: Ryan Johnston and Suzanne Goldish
  • ADR Engineer: David W. Barr

Acquisition (Home Video): Ai Tenchi Muyo

Another title from the Tenchi Muyo franchise is coming to home video release, thanks to Funimation.

Synopsis: Thanks to Washu, the universe has been thrown into chaos and it’s up to Tenchi to clean up the mess. But to do so he’s going undercover as a teacher—at an all-girl’s school! What awaits him beyond the attention of cute girls at this not-so-ordinary school? And will he be able to balance timelines and trouble that come with this latest adventure? Join the harem and the fun in this series of shorts!

This release will have sub and dub, with the cast of the english dub to be announced at a later time. Release date is July 10th, 2018.
