Don’t know what Deadly Class is yet? Look no further for information on what could surprise you and become your new favorite show. Think something like Hogwart’s School of Wizardry. Now replace all that stuff about learning how to use magic responsibly with training students to become assassins. Springing from the comic book pages drawn by Wes Craig and written by Rick Remender, The Russo brothers (yes, those Russo brothers) executive produce the show alongside their duties with the Avengers. Although you’ll find mostly fresh faces among the cast, Marvel fans should recognize Benedict Wong as Master Lin, the school headmaster.
We have three videos in our playlist shot live at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Actors Luke Tennie, Maria Gabriela de Faria, and Lana Condor tell about their characters and about the physical demands of shooting a high action show. Executive Producers Mick Betancourt and Miles Orion Feldsott explain their initial interest in the comic. They also describe the process to adapt it to television. Finally, the original comic book artist and writer (Craig and Remender, respectively) tell us about what influenced their creative process with the comic.
How Will it Go?
How will a show that depicts high school age students committing acts of violence fare among today’s viewers? The show itself takes place during the 80s and involves a certain amount of supernatural activity. For the sake of these very excited actors and creatives, I hope that’s enough to separate the show’s larger-than-life take on reality from the very real issue of actual school violence. Still, one might expect a certain amount of parent group-related backlash once the show premieres.
