Fans have been waiting over a year to hear if Green Arrow and the Canaries would get the go ahead for a series run with The CW network. Their answer was finally announced earlier this week. The CW has passed on the Arrow spin-off series. No official reason was given as to why the network passed.

Arrow Season 8 provided a back door pilot for the female lead series. It would be the spin-off series to continue the Arrow legacy. Green Arrow and the Canaries was due to take place several years in the future. It would star Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak Queen, who was to assume her father’s mantle as the Green Arrow and work with the ever-popular Canaries, Earth two’s Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), and Earth one’s Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).

Fans often turned to social media to express their interest in the potential series. Often tagging The CW network asking for news on the show. Over a year has passed without news. Several weeks ago a glimmer of hope appeared by way of Katherine McNamara. She shared on social media that she wasn’t done with her character Mia Smoak and wanted to continue portraying her in some way. She also stated that she had no news if it was going to be picked up. It would seem she was in the same boat as the rest of us, eagerly waiting for some form of news.

Needless to say, I am heartbroken…would’ve loved to go on the journey with Mia Smoak. Thanks to everyone for their love and support.

It wasn’t much longer until fans received their answer about the series. McNamara again took to social media to express her gratitude to her fans once the news was announced, “Needless to say, I am heartbroken…would’ve loved to go on the journey with Mia Smoak. Thanks to everyone for their love and support.” Fellow cast mates Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, have yet to make a statement about the news of their show. Many fans are not happy with The CW’s decision and are hoping that Mia Smoak Queen and the Canaries can somehow show up on another of the many Arrowverse shows.
