“It’s best you stop digging,” was the title of this weeks episode. But dig is what our characters do best. They leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding what they need. So of course this was another Alice centric episode. I’m not complaining though because Alice is one of my favorite villain’s. Batwoman on the other had took a side step with more of her Kryptonite issues for her story. But we got plenty of badass moments from these two ladies and some nice info to progress the story along.
Now as far as Alice, we got treated to some nice flashbacks of when she was still Beth and about -her journey to Coryana. For the well versed Arrowverse enthusiasts you might be thinking something seems a bit familiar to this story. You would be correct. Alice’s story arch to Coryana parallels that to the Arrowverse badass Legend, Sara Lance’s from back in Arrow season two.
As you may recall Sara was lost on the Queen’s Gambit and presumed dead. Her journey eventually lead to her being washed up on a shoreline and found by The League of Assassins’ member Nyssa Al Ghul. Sara was found worthy by Ras Al Ghul, leader of the Assassins’, to remain in Nanda Par Bat and train to become an assassin. She would pledge her allegiance to them and as we know, gave her heart to Nyssa as the two became lovers. Her leaving Nanda Par Bat was a betrayal and sent the league off hunting her.
Alice, who was known as Beth back then, was also found on a boat and brought back to Coryana. She was deemed worthy to live and remain on the island by the leader, Safiyah. Alice was sent to train with Safiyah’s brother, Ocean. This would explain how Alice is able to fight so well, because lets face it, being kept prisoner like she was didn’t teach her any of that. We learn that Alice and Ocean eventually fall for one another. Their love would betray Safiyah and send her in a fit of rage to rip that from them by removing their memories of one another and sending them off on their own paths….alone. This is what sets Beth off on her journey as Alice to seek the vengeance she craved.
As for Batwoman, Ryan Wilder is having some awful side effects from that Kryptonite. It is spreading and fast. Mary works to slow it as best she can but nothing aside from the Desert Rose flower from Coryana is believed to be what will heal her. Poor Ryan is experiencing some nasty hallucinations this week. The most gruesome was of her killing Alice. Good thing that was just an hallucination and not the real thing or else Alice would be done. We need not count Ryan out just yet though because this girl has some gumption and pulls herself together take off in the Batmobile to find Alice. She wants to kill Alice before the kryptonite kills her. I’ve got to say this girl is one badass to be going through all that from the Kryptonite and still be able to get up and go fight.
It’s a messed up situation when the person you are out for vengeance on doesn’t even remember what they did to you to cause you to hate them that much. What’s even more messed up is the fact that Ryan revealed her identity as Batwoman to Alice. Seriously girl are you nuts?! Alice will take that information and use it against you later, just wait and see. As for Alice, she had no clue who Ryan’s mom was, but Ryan explained that to her as the two fought. I was scared for Alice at one point when Ryan had her down. She could have easily killed Alice but Ryan had her hero moment and let her go. It would appear that Ryan is learning that vengeance isn’t all its cracked up to be. Well, that and Ryan is a smart lady who placed a tracker in Alice’s boot. That’s a point up for our Bat…you go Ryan!
By now we should all know that Alice doesn’t do anything until she is ready. Well Alice wasn’t ready to go back to Coryana and see Safiyah until she got all dolled up for the occasion. Her devious smile left us wanting more story as she rode off with Tatiana on their way. I’d think it best to say that Safiyah best be on the lookout because Alice is not coming to play games. She has had enough taken from her and she is out to take it all back. It’s cat and mouse time Safiyah, time to play the game.
