Reconnecting & Memories – Episode 14 Mehar’s Jacket Review

Walker delivered an all around excellent episode this week. It was about reconnecting and remembering. A wonderful tribute to a fan favorite, Hoyt Rawlins.

As you know, last week we were devastated by the end of the episode at Hoyt’s untimely death at the hands of Clint West. Fans just couldn’t believe that the series decided to end this character. I believe he was a great supporting character that helped to ground Cordell and give him a true pal that he could turn to. In my opinion, they should have kept him around.

This week seemed to have jumped ahead by two weeks. Having already had Hoyt’s funeral and laying him to rest. The Walker’s are still reeling from what happened at the ranch and dealing with the aftermath from it. From reporters to news crews calling and showing up at the ranch, everyone was into the Walker’s business. But the only business the Walker’s were into dealing with was reconnecting with one another.

Gerri made her appearances in this episode to the dislike of fans as well as myself. The majority of us fans just don’t find her suitable for Cordell. There still seems to be something fishy going on with her involving Emily’s death. She is just the character we all love to hate.

However she did seem to be grieving over Hoyt’s passing. She showed up wearing one of his old jackets and enlisted Cordell and the kids to help her retrieve Hoyt’s belongings. It’s my opinion that Gerri should have been shedding some tears after what we learned Hoyt did.

It seems there was more than meets to eye when it comes to Hoyt Rawlins. He loved Gerri and actually listened to her wants and needs. He proved that by buying some land that she had admired when passing by.  It was a place they could set up a home for themselves. Hoyt saw that and was putting down roots. That’s right, that wild Texas cowboy was ready to settle down with the woman he loved. Its sad that never got to happen.

But I think the best part of the episode was when we learned that Hoyt was a softy at heart. He talked the former owners out of including a mare and her adopted alpaca as part of the land deal. Hoyt just couldn’t separate the two. Who else but Hoyt would end up with an alpaca.

The most endearing part was the reconnection between Bonham and Abeline. Seems Bonham finally came around to Abeline’s way of thinking. It was time the two made up. So he decided to take her out hunting mushrooms because its something she loves doing. Seeing them on the floor afterwards holding hands and laughing with one another brought a smile to my face. But what Bonham did next was a tear jerker.

Bonham decided something need built at the ranch and he took off happily to do so. A nice new stable are was erected to hold the new additions to the ranch, the momma and baby alpacas. It was a delight to see Bonham so happy and even ribbing Cordell a bit. The sweetest surprises were August naming the baby alpaca Hoyt, and the tribute Bonham put on the fence in Hoyt’s honor. I shed a few tears on that one myself.

As for other reconnections, we did get answers on some. I think the biggest one was what the future holds for Stella and Trevor. While Trevor still seems open to rekindling things, Stella came to the heartbreaking decision that they were over. It’s a pity, because these two were so cute together. Now the question remains if we will see Trevor again.

Liam got a surprise reconnection with Bret, his former fiancé. Having heard what happened to Liam, Bret sent him a text and the two agreed to talk. Could we see a return of Bret to Texas?

As for Cordell and Gerri, Gerri made it clear that the two needed to talk things through, but that it wasn’t the time. She rode off leaving Cordell with his kids and him watching her go like a school boy who just had his heart broken for the first time.

I’m glad the Walker’s and company got some solace from what Hoyt left. That they got to share some old memories and laughs at things he used to do. If nothing else, the wild cowboys death brought the family together again. I’m sure it’s something he would have wanted.
