Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Brings On The Nostalgia

“He came out here for a reason.” The latest trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife brings on the nostalgia, the callbacks, the confirmation on the timeline, and something strange in their neighborhood. Oh and let’s not forget Paul Rudd. From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Jason Reitman & Gil Kenan.

The latest trailer brings out the Stranger Things vibes for the next installment in the Ghostbusters franchise. But it also confirms fan theories on its timeline and continuity to the original films. This will be a sequel taking place after the events of Ghostbusters 2. This was assumed, but the final scene at the end of the trailer from the Occult Book store and Ray’s voice settled that debate. We also get confirmation that these kids are in fact the grandchildren of Egon, but while we also see Janine Melnitz, we don’t yet know if she is in fact their grandmother or not.

The vibe for this latest trailer has some Stranger Things feels, and not just because of Finn Wolfhard. That works here and combined with the nostalgia and callbacks to the original films I am all in for this latest installment. The most recent ‘remake’ of Ghostbusters with an all-female cast was met with a lot of discussion among fans about it not being a direct sequel and its more light/comedy-driven tone. I didn’t mind it as a spin-off non-cannon film. The cast was funny and well-rounded. But Ghostbusters Afterlife appears to be the story we have been waiting for all these years.
