Sanctuary Review – Monsoon

The sanctuary is without money, resources or protection anymore since Magnus decided to decline letting the united nations oversee the sanctuary network. As a result they are running into issues with basic items like power, water and supplies. Magnus flew off to an island off the coast of Africa in the hopes of meeting someone who is said to help those in need of cash, underground cash. While that is going on Will has a special dinner planned for his girlfriend who was just promoted to special agent in the FBI.

Magnus is sitting at the small airport and starts getting hit on by a few of the guys waiting for the next plane. She stands them up and makes friends with a reporter and a scientist who is studying Lemers. A small plane lands and Magnus thinks her contact has shown up, but she was wrong. When the 3 leave the plane, they shoot the 2 airplane employees and take everyone hostage.

They know everyone is there to “give” their money to this mystery man so they are going to take their money instead. He asks for the banking information of everyone, the poker player has a little over $100k in his account and they take it. When Magnus is asked, she gladly gives hers and they find she is broke. Magnus begins to hatch a plan when the poker player hits one of them, shoots the leader 5 times and runs, and the female with them uses an abmoral ability to destory the wall and knock him out. It becomes clear to Magnus all of them are abnormals. The one who was shot gets back up, unhurt.

Before long, they know Magnus isnt just some broke chick sitting at the airport. They send out 2 of their guys to find Magnus’ plane and they find it. But it has defenses and starts shooting at the 2 trying to break into it. They hit it with an EMP pulse to disable its defenses. Magnus and the others make a run for it and just as they approach the hanger, it explodes. Magnus had a secondary defense on the plane that prevented access if an EMP was used. Magnus decides to go out on her own and go Jane  Bond on them, slowly picking off the rest before her contact landed.

Along with the scientist Magnus befriended, they allowed the men to think the package she was carrying had a deadly virus in it that would kill millions. They took the vile thinking they could sell them on the black market. When the plan reached altitude it exploded. Apparently the virus was not in there at all, it was nitro. In an unpressurized plane, its not so fun. The virus is being carried inside the scientist and Magnus realizes one of the hostages was in fact her contact. he wasnt waiting to land he was already there. He thanked her for saving them and gladly said he would help her with the money she needed.

As a side plot to the story, Henry and Will try to hunt down monsters as they get information but run into the FBI and Wills girlfriend who failed to tell Will her new job was to also hunt abnormals. The tension leads to some childish moments and a near breakup from the couple but ends with a truce.

Overall I would give this episode a 9/10 as a standalone and a 5/10 for overall plot. Now at the very end, we see a kiss…..the scientist (female) kissing Magnus. Im sorry but that took the episode from a B to a C. Its unlike Magnus and was seriously forced.
